As the guys brought four dogs, two bird and two retrievers, with only the retrievers getting any action, our next stop was a CRP field. Once again a picture perfect hunt. We slipped into the grass through a milo field and caught the birds from behind. With the cold bunching the birds, the next two hours was like a box of marbles dropped down the stairs. You never knew what or which way one was coming out and just as you thought it was finished the second row popped out.
Counting up, after the hunt, the four of us with major-major help from the dogs ended up with a \”brought to the game bag rooster\” every seven minutes until we\’d hunted two hours and had 16 roosters. Not once during this hunt did we ever have two roosters within gun range at the same time nor any hunter shooting a double. It was here, there, behind, to the side and in front about every fifty steps. I\’ll tell you, those guys from Missouri were a pleasure to hunt with. Even with all the excitement not a single gun was ever pointed in an unsafe manner.
