PITTSBURGH – Steeler Country is now home to the Eagles! No, not the cross-Commonwealth rival Philadelphia Eagles; a pair of American bald eagles.
\”While bald eagles are not an uncommon sight as they hunt for fish in the Three Rivers area of Pittsburgh, this is the first confirmed nesting pair of bald eagles in Allegheny County,\” said Gary Fujak, Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer for western Allegheny County. \”The nest is in Crescent Township, but – in order to protect the nest from disturbances – we are not going to disclose the exact location, and we are working with the landowner to keep the area secure.\”
The Game Commission annually monitors bald eagle nests – both existing and new – to measure nesting population trends and

PHILADELPHIA (04/26/10) – Agnes L. \”Aggie\” Stegmuller, a four-sport athlete who earned all-All-America honors in field hockey and softball while at Temple University, passed away Sunday at the age of 87.
Stegmuller, a member of the Temple University Athletics Hall of Fame, played badminton, basketball, field hockey and softball during her college career, winning a collegiate championship in badminton while helping the Owls to three undefeated basketball seasons.
\”We are deeply saddened by the loss of an All-America on the playing fields and in life,\” Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw said. \”Aggie was one of the most recognizable faces of Temple women\’s athletics over the last half century. Her presence will sorely be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this time.\”
Stegmuller, who earned two Temple degrees, received the Conwell Society Award at the University’s annual Conwell Recognition Dinner in 2001. The award recognizes Temple’s most generous and loyal friends and alumni.
An avid supporter of Temple sports, Stegmuller earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education and biological science from Temple in 1945 and her master’s degree in psychology and educational administration in 1948.
Stegmuller endowed a scholarship for kinesiology students and contributed annually to the Owl Club in support of student-athletes.
Additionally, she had served as president of the Women’s Athletic Club, as a member of the Board of Trustees’ Athletic Committee, and on the Board of Directors of the Owl Club. She also had received the Certificate of Honor and the F. Eugene Dixon Jr. Inspiration Award from the University’s General Alumni Association.
Stegmuller served on the Board of Directors in Temple’s College of Education and as a student teaching supervisor.
In June 2000, a \”star\” dressing room was named in her honor at Temple’s Liacouras Center.
A staunch advocate for the advancement of women’s sports, Stegmuller had been involved in education for more than 48 years, serving as a teacher, coach, athletic director and department head at John Bartram High School in Southwest Philadelphia.
While coaching field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, tennis, badminton and bowling, she also found time to officiate at the high school, collegiate and international levels—and to serve on the U.S. Olympic Committee.
The Clifton Heights resident had been inducted into the Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and had received honor awards from the American and Pennsylvania Associations for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
She also received the Secher Award for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership.
Active as an official in five sports, Stegmuller volunteered her time as a mentor to new officials and organized international exchange opportunities for Philadelphia high school athletes.
Arrangements will follow.

How can you get copies of FBI records on people, groups, and closed cases?
For years, we’ve been steadily adding these files to our Freedom of Information/Privacy Act (FOI/PA) website so you can access them with a click of a mouse. But some records are not available online and require you to make a formal request to the FBI.
This request process has just gotten easier, thanks to a new electronic form and revamped website that we are unveiling today.

The Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey, one of three species colloquially known in the United States as the \”chickenhawk,\” though it rarely preys on chickens. It breeds throughout most of North America, from western Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies, and is one of the most common buteos in North America. Red-tailed Hawks can acclimate to all the biomes within its range. There are fourteen recognized subspecies, which vary in appearance and range. It is one of the largest members of the genus Buteo in North America, typically weighing from 690 to 1600 grams (1.5 to 3.5 pounds) and measuring 45–65 cm (18 to 26 in) in length, with a wingspan from 110 to 145 cm (43 to 57 in). The Red-tailed Hawk displays sexual dimorphism in size, with females averaging about 25% heavier than males.
The Harlan\’s Hawk (B. j. harlani), often considered a separate species, is treated below in the Taxonomy section.
