Carl Schmidt, a longtime resident of Bellmawr, passed peacefully at home with his family by his side on June 25, 2010. Age 72.

Beloved husband of 52 years of Rosemary (nee Miller). Devoted father of Christopher Schmidt, Cheryl Pastore (Stephen) and Carla Miller (Gary). Loving Poppi of Joseph, Nicholas and Kirsten and great-grandpop of Sophia.

Mr. Schmidt served in the U.S. Navy.

There will be a viewing from 6 to 8pm Monday eve at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral Service 8pm at the funeral home. Interment private.

As companies were returning to their stations from the monthly Beaverbrook Alliance drill, a Task 32 box was dispatched for a reported building fire at the Bellmawr News Shop on Browning Rd. Battalion 303 (Kibler) arrived to find a 1-story end of the row strip store with smoke showing. Companies forced entry and quickly contained the fire to the area of orgin. No injuries were reported and fire is under investigation by the Camden County Fire Marshals Office.

Older teens wore their Gloucester Catholic High School baseball jerseys, and young men in business suits who\’d been coached by Barth — not only in baseball, but in basketball, as well — joined them to ponder what life might be like without Barth around to spout his many whimsical \”isms.\” Bobby Barth, a Winslow resident, was most recently first-base coach under Dennis Barth at Gloucester Catholic, helping the Rams to their 14th state title on June 5. John Lowe, Barth\’s stepson, eulogized the man he considered a true father for the 25 years he was married to Lowe\’s mother, Mary. \”For me, he was a family dude, a nice guy — the nice guy. He did everything for everyone,\” Lowe said. \”He loved Haagen-Dazs ice cream, ate it by the gallon. And if you had any stocks, he\’d say, \”Sell \’em,\’ because they\’d probably go down,\” he said.

While watching parts of the soccer tournament, the cameras zoomed in on several people showing their support for the U.S.A., wearing the American Flag. Although this is not done to be malicious, it is against the U.S. Flag Code for respect of the flag. It states : The Flag shall never be worn as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery.
