Javier Cruz-Rojas Sentenced for Sexual Assault of Child

MAYS LANDING- A 45 year-old Pleasantville man has been sentenced on charges of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and 2nd Degree Endangering by Sexual Conduct of a girl who he began assaulting when she was 8 years-old, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

An investigation determined that the girl was sexually assaulted on multiple occasions while in the care of Cruz-Rojas from February 5, 2016 to February 3, 2018.

Javier Cruz-Rojas was sentenced before Presiding Judge Bernard DeLury on Friday, February 28, 2020, to 10 years in New Jersey state prison subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA), which mandates that the defendant must serve 85% of the sentence at 85%. Cruz-Rojas will also be subject to Megan’s Law Registration and Parole Supervision for Life.

The investigation was conducted by detectives of the ACPO Special Victims Unit. Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Flammer represents the state in the matter.

The field trip is designed to show how the

Atlantic City Expressway

works to co-exist with wildlife and the land it occupies, which includes over 1,200 acres along its 44-mile span, much of which is in the pinelands of South Jersey.

The field trip is being run in coordination with the

New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Division

and will examine animal and wildlife fencing, wildlife crossings and a tour of the SJTA\’s Pinelands Interpretive Center at the Expressway\’s

Farley Plaza Service

area, where participants will learn about the pinelands and READI. The trip\’s activities will also feature a visit to see native flower plantings along the Expressway, including a hummingbird garden.

The SJTA launched READI several years ago when the Expressway Operations Department began reintroducing perennial and native wildflowers across 35 acres of the Expressway\’s right-of-way. The wildflowers attract and support important pollinators like bees and butterflies that are suffering from habitat loss and pesticide use. The goal is to reverse the population decline of these crucial pollinators.

The initiative evolved further when the Expressway installed a series of bat boxes or bat houses along the highway\’s right-of-way in 2017. While bats play a vital role in the ecology of local environments, they face numerous threats including the loss of habitat. The bat houses provide shelter and safety from predators.

The efforts of READI go beyond only supporting bats; it has installed structures for a variety of species including the American Kestrel, blue birds, screech owls and nesting platforms for ospreys near Atlantic City. The initiative has created animal crossings that allow wildlife to travel underneath the Expressway as they naturally migrate between different areas. The crossings will be examined during the field trip.

READI also has an educational component that involves presenting programs at local schools to support their environmental curriculums. Every year around Arbor Day, the Expressway Operations Department is invited to local elementary and middle schools to plant a tree(s) and present assemblies that impress on students the importance of practicing good environmental stewardship. The SJTA has visited more than 26 schools since 2011 and planted as many as 35 trees in a variety of species during the past four years. These programs invite student participation in the planting of a native tree(s) at each school visited.

Brandon Perez & David Sult Sentenced for Setting Homeless Man on Fire

MAYS LANDING – Two men were sentenced on Feb. 28, 2020 before Judge Waldman to New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty in November to aggravated assault for setting a man on fire in March, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Brandon Perez, (right) 23, of Hammonton and David Sult, (left) 24, of Mays Landing, were both sentenced to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison subject to the No Early Release Act.

In November both men pleaded guilty to second degree aggravated assault in exchange for five years New Jersey State Prison subject to the No Early Release Act (85% period of parole ineligibility and three years parole supervision upon release).

On the evening of March 15, 2019, Brandon Perez and David Sult were at Sult’s residence in Mays Landing hanging out with a group of other men. Raymond Mullen was asleep on a couch when Perez and Sult decided to play a “prank” on him. Perez sprayed lighter fluid on the back of Raymond’s clothing. Perez ignited it. Raymond suffered severe burns to his back. The men claimed Raymond had been burned accidentally by an electronic smoking device but the investigation revealed the fire had been set intentionally.

Township of Hamilton Police Det. Lawrence Fernan investigated the incident and ACPO Det. Danielle Kratky assisted with the prosecution. Assistant Prosecutor Chris D’Esposito represents the state in the matter.

NJ Announces Offshore Wind Solicitation Schedule of 7,500 MW through 2035

Commitment Demonstrates New Jersey’s Leadership on Offshore Wind

TRENTON

– Governor Phil Murphy recently announced the offshore wind solicitation schedule to meet the 7,500 megawatt (MW) offshore wind goal by 2035 and called upon the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to take all

necessary actions to implement the schedule. These projects will deliver the clean, renewable energy generation needed to meet the State’s goals of 50 percent renewable energy by 2030 and a 100 percent clean energy economy by 2050. Reaching 7,500 MW will generate enough electricity to power more than 3.2 million homes and meet fifty percent of the state’s electric power need, while supporting an offshore wind industry that will generate billions of dollars in investments in New Jersey’s future and create thousands of jobs.

“Several months ago, I committed the State of New Jersey to 7,500 MW of offshore wind by 2035, as a critical component of achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2050,”

said Governor Murphy.

“By announcing this planned solicitation schedule, we are demonstrating to our partners in industry and labor that we are committed to implementing this process in a thoughtful way that ensures economic growth for the New Jersey.”

“Not only was Governor Murphy the first to embrace 100 percent clean energy, he has been a national leader when it comes to recognizing the importance of offshore wind,”

said New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Joseph L. Fiordaliso.

“New Jersey opened the largest single-state solicitation, is building a supply chain that will support projects up and down the east coast and is poised to double our offshore wind capacity. Guided by our new Energy Master Plan, offshore wind is a critical component in realizing the Governor’s vision of 100 percent clean energy by 2050 and ensuring our planet survives for future generations.”

The proposed schedule calls for the next 1,200 MW solicitation to be opened by September 2020, with an award made by second quarter of 2021. Setting a solicitation schedule through 2035 provides a crucial level of certainty for developers, original equipment manufacturers, and the supply chain.

To be responsive to the evolving market, the schedule has been developed to provide flexibility in terms of the amount being procured with each solicitation and the exact timeline. There are a number of factors that could influence the timing and the quantity to be procured including transmission solutions and development schedule, the status of additional lease areas, permitting, port readiness, establishment of a supply chain, workforce training, and cost trends.

In January 2018, Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 8, which directed NJBPU to fully implement the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act and begin the process of moving the state toward a goal of 3,500 MW of offshore wind by the year 2030. In response, New Jersey Board Public Utilities issued a solicitation for 1,100 MW of offshore wind and awarded Ørsted with the largest single state contract in June 2019. Ørsted expects this first project to be operational by 2024.

On November 19, 2019, Governor Murphy issued Executive Order No. 92 directing the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and other state agencies with responsibilities arising under Offshore Wind Economic Development Act to take all necessary actions to promote the development of wind energy off the coast of New Jersey to meet a goal of 7,500 MW of offshore wind by the year 2035. County Prosecutor’s office and Cape May County Sheriff engage in joint operations to curtail drug epidemic

Cape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Sheriff Robert Nolan announce the seizure of Methamphetamine and the arrest of Andrew Wells, a 43-year-old resident of the Villas section of Lower Township.

On January 31, 2020, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Gangs Guns and Narcotics Task Force (GGNTF) along with the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office were in the Rio Grande area of Middle Township regarding to an ongoing narcotics investigation into the distribution of Methamphetamine by Andrew Wells. Members of the GGNTF were able to locate Andrew Wells and observed him entering into a vehicle and departing the area. With the assistance of a Cape May County Sheriff’s Office, marked patrol / K9 unit, a motor vehicle stop was performed of the vehicle in which Andrew Wells occupied. Pursuant to further investigation, over one ounce of crystal Methamphetamine was seized from the vehicle.

Andrew Wells was charged with Possession of CDS (methamphetamine), 3rd Degree and Possession with the Intent to Distribute CDS (methamphetamine), 2nd degree. * Andrew Wells was lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center pursuant to bail reform.

Prosecutor Sutherland recognized the special role of the Sheriff’s Office with their marked vehicle K-9 unit to help apprehend Mr. Wells. Prosecutor Sutherland stated; “Having Sheriff Nolan provide two Sheriff Deputy’s with their unique background of having a direct connection with the county jail, court system and executing warrants, in addition to providing the K-9 unit is a force multiplier for our Task Force that contributes to making our community safer.”

Sheriff Nolan was glad to contribute to the Task Force and stated; “We are proud to provide our Deputies and K-9 Unit to play an affirmative role in investigating and apprehending criminals, in additional to our custodial role with the county jail, in making Cape May County safer.”
