GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ –Gloucester City is set to begin construction for the replacement of its water treatment plant, the sole source of drinking water to its residents and businesses. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 4 pm, at the water treatment plant, to mark the start of the project.
PHOTO:Some may recall that in 1995 the City received a grant of $180,000 from the New Jersey Historic Preservation Bond Program to restore the exterior masonry of the building. See New Jersey Historic Trust .
The replacement is needed to improve water quality being pumped from the City wells and to replace existing equipment that has exceeded its life expectancy.
The new water treatment plant will be constructed on the site of the reservoir and will include new aerators for gas removal from the well water, plate settlers for iron and manganese removal, new pressure sand filters to polish the water, and air stripper towers to remove chemical contaminants from the water. The replacement plant was designed by the City Engineers, Remington & Vernick Engineers in coordination with the City’s Water Department Director, Fred Schindler, and his staff.
Construction will be performed by L. C Construction of Williamstown, New Jersey for the amount of $ 9,636,000.00. The work will be constructed with organized labor groups from South Jersey. The City is funding the project through a low interest loan from the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust Program
Additional information on the project can be obtained by contacting Fred Schindler, Director of Environmental Utilities Department at (856) 456-0169 or Howard Clark, Director of Community Development @ [email protected] or (856) 456-6075

My son, Jesse Wicker, is doing a fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart. He is very excited about being able to do something that helps others. I do encourage my kids to participate in charities to teach them human kindness and compassion.
I would appreciate anyone that would be interested in donating to his fundraiser to stop by his webpage and donate. Last year he was very disappointed that only a few donated. Jump roping is hard for him because of the coordination skills that he lacks. But he did try very hard last year to thank the ones that donated and sponsored him.
I want him to know just how many do care. He has a hard time approaching people on this because of the autism and we were pleased to see that it was offered online now and that helps him in his goal.
If you have a moment please stop by and donate to the cause. It is sponsored by the American Heart Association.
Here is the link to his page.

In Corzine\’s three years, property taxes jumped nearly 20 percent; as candidate, he pledged to lower them by 40 percent in four years.
SINCE JANUARY, I have received dozens upon dozens of messages from people all over New Jersey who are hurting, scared, desperate and angry. They are young and old, married and single, working and jobless. Their stories are heartbreaking, and none of them believes his or her voice is being heard by Governor Corzine and the Legislature.
Marilyn from Oxford says she and her husband had to sell their home of 10 years. Why? \”We never missed a payment or have ever been late [but] because of unreasonable property taxes we were forced to sell before the situation gets any worse.\”

Or was it just beginning?
