GLOUCESTER CITY NJ-The official ground breaking ceremonies for the rehabilitation and conversion of the Chatham Square Apartment Complex was held Tuesday, June 1. The City, in conjunction with developer, Orens Brothers of Philadelphia are converting the 100 apartment complex, located on Route 130 at Klemm Avenue into 50 town houses. The new homes will be priced between $175,000 and $180,000.

Representing Orens Brothers were Derek Connolly, director of development, Matt Barrabee, project manager, Guy Orens, vice-president, Scott Orens, president, Jon Orens, vice president, Bob Cohen, director of acquisition. Gloucester City officials included: Mayor Bill James, Councilmen Nick Marchese, Bruce Parry, Dan Spencer and John Hutchinson, Fire Chief Brian Hagan and Street Supervisor Steve Cianchetti. Not pictured City Administrator Jack Lipsett and City Solicitor John Kearney.

Mayor James said, \”This rehabilitation project will be aesthetically appealing to the Route 130 Redevelopment corridor, generate a much needed tax base of 50 new townhouses, and also transform a former eyesore, and trouble plagued property into a viable and vibrant living community.\” James continued, \”This is a great location with regards to access to major highways and close to Philadelphia. We anticipate much interest and excitement about this proactive project.\”

Councilman Marchese said, \”This project has been in the works since the City of Gloucester purchased the complex two years ago. With the rehabilitation comes an increase in tax revenue, as well as improvements to the appearance of the often traveled Route 130 corridor. In addition, this project revitalizes an area once plagued by drug sales and crime\”.
