We are all aware of the need for cut backs which is why the Firefighters and Fire Officers of the GCFD have changed our pay cycle schedule and agreed to forgo a pay increase since 2008 when our contact ended. Along with these concessions, the Firefighters and Fire Officers have been performing our own fleet maintenance, as well as additional cost saving measures. Therefore, we have saved the City hundreds of thousands of dollars in hopes to help with the budget crisis and maintain the current staffing level standards. Please come out to welcome home Sgt. James Charles Davis, 29 yrs old, from serving in Afghanistan. James was raised in Gloucester City, NJ and graduated from Gloucester City High School. When he was 19 he joined the Navy and was stationed on the Theodore Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier in Norfolk Va. He spent 8 years in the Navy, where he starting out working on the Catapults and on the carrier deck. He served 2 tours in Iraq and finished up his Navy career working in the Jag office.

James has 2 little boys, James Charles Jr. and Wyatt Allen.

The City of Gloucester City is the proud owner of a snow cone bike purchased recently for $150 by Councilman Nick Marchese. As for the naysayers who are complaining it was a waste of money, Marchese writes,

\”I purchased the bike at a yard sale in Cypress Gardens for a $150. I wanted to use the bike to earn money for our Celebrations Committee. We had Public Works, \”Spags\” clean up the bike and paint it and at the last minute Jack Hughes agreed to ride it in the Memorial Day parade. The great part was that Brain Freeze from Brooklawn who recently purchased the hot dog cart at the marina agreed to donate water ice, sell it out of our bike, and we donated the money made to the VFW and the American Legion. There were some who were naysayers about purchasing the bike saying what you will do with this bike. Since then we found out the bike could be worth more than $1,500.

We will use the bike at various events throughout the year to earn money to save tax dollars on celebration events. I thank the people for selling the City the bike at a reasonable price. Sometimes even when people think things are a bad idea, they turn out better than you thought, as long as you’re willing to take a chance.\”

The developer has donated the entire cost of the parade. It had been cancelled by Bellmawr Mayor and Council due to fiscal reasons.

In honor of Church observances, the parade, including all aspects such as the baby and bicycle parades, will go on as planned Monday July 5.

It will step off from Annunciation School at 11 a.m., and terminate as usual at Borough Hall.

In other town news, the Bellmawr School District has announced the beginning of their Summer Reading Program, which this year will be mandatory for all students from K-8.

Mr. Barth, age 58, was a teacher employed by the Lindenwold School District. He was an assistant baseball coach for Gloucester Catholic High School baseball team and a pitching and batting coach at Sports Central in Bellmawr.

Task Force 32 was dispatched to 38 West Browning Road for a dwelling fire. Squirt 32 arrived with smoke showing from the eves of a two story wood frame twin. Crews quickly located the fire in the wall cavity on the second floor in the rear, crews opened up the wall and discovered the fire had extended into the cockloft. The Crews quickly got ahead of it and the fire was placed under control around the 20 minute mark. Local housing Officals are following up with the incident. No injuries were reported. A nice job by all compaines. (Runnemede , Barrington, Mt Ephraim)

Many are not clear on who and what the Gloucester High Alumni Association is and what it does. It is a group of approximately fifteen people who at one time attended Gloucester High.
