RFA Members Urged to Call Governor Christie to Save I BOAT NJ

According to the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ), buried deep within this year\’s \"Hunting-and-Fishing-October-1927-1\" New Jersey budget proposal is a reduction in funds for the I BOAT NJ program. I BOAT NJ is a dedicated account that utilizes a portion of New Jersey boater registration fees to reinvest grant funds to selected eligible applicants to promote, improve and enhance the marine industry in the State of New Jersey for the benefit of the general boating public. 

Due to ongoing fiscal management problems in New Jersey, the Office of Management and Budget is looking to take much of the $2.5 million fund for the state\’s general fund, which would wipe out the entire program. The MTA/NJ has strongly opposed this and has been working with senior budget committee members to discuss the impact that a loss of funding would have on the many tax-saving and beneficial projects the program supports and urge them to save I Boat NJ, and they\’re urging members to help save the I BOAT NJ program by contacting Gov. Chris Christie\’s office.

June 11, 2010-Bishop Joseph A. Galante this week announced the retirement of two \"Churchfront\" priests and the appointment of a new pastor:

— Father Robert Dunphy, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Mt. Ephraim, retired June 9.

— Father Michael P. Hegarty, senior priest at Holy Maternity, Audubon, retired June 9, and will be in residence at Sacred Heart North, Cherry Hill.

— Father Hugh J. Bradley, pastor of Blessed John the Twenty-Third Parish, Blue Anchor, was appointed pastor of Emmaus Catholic Communnity, Mt. Ephraim, for a six-year term, effective June 9. Emmaus Catholic Community is the parish formed June 9 from the uniting of Sacred Heart and Holy Maternity.

Are Gloucester City Firemen Qualified to do Repairs on Fire Truck Engines?

The first letter that I had written covered suggestions for the Gloucester City Fire Department. The first part of the letter \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef01157153a790970b-200wi\" said that we would like to see the Fire Dept run by the county and backed up with vollies and leave a paid 24/7 ambulance within GC. We still believe this would be the best case, with this there would be no job loss and everybody who benefits from this service would be paying for it period.

Winning block receives cool roofs, energy audits, air sealing and insulation

PHILADELPHIA, June 18, 2010 – Tomorrow afternoon Mayor Michael A. Nutter and \"RetroFitPhilly_logo(1)\" the residents of the \”Coolest Block in Philadelphia\” will celebrate winning cool roofs and insulation for the entire block of 1200 Wolf Street with a block party in South Philadelphia. The winner of the RetroFIT Philly \”Coolest Block\” Contest was announced by Mayor Nutter on May 13th in conjunction with the bill signing for Philadelphia’s new \”Cool Roof\” law, which was sponsored by Councilman Jim Kenney.

The block party will be held on Saturday 19 June, 2010 from 2:30pm on the 1200 block of Wolf Street, Philadelphia (Mayor Nutter will arrive at 3:30pm). The party will feature a demonstration of cool roofing and insulation products by installers from the Energy Coordinating Agency (ECA). Live

Stevens’ Hillary Paul Named Empire 8 Woman of the Year

(June 15, 2010) – Hillary Paul (Concord, N.H.), a recent graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology and a member of the field hockey, soccer, and track and field programs, has been named the 2010 Empire 8 Woman of the Year. Paul will represent the conference in national balloting for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, and service and leadership.

Please come out to welcome home Specialist David Holohan from serving in Iraq. David \"Yellowribbon2\" Joined the US Army as a Medic in 2005. He has completed tours in South Korea, Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, and Iraq. In Iraq he was with Infantry Battalion Armored Division as a Mortar Platoon Medic. David is currently stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

David is married to Kaitlyn and they have 2 children; Chase 2 yrs old and Seamus 1 yr old.

David and Kaitlyn are renewing their vows tomorrow and then going home to Cinnaminson at the above address. The WWR will escort them from the site of the ceremony to Cinnaminson where the Yellow Ribbon Club & Friends along with the Cinnaminson Fire and Police Dept will be waiting to make some noise as this hero is brought home.

Ocean City looking at bypassing Civil Service list to hire three firefighters; Interviewing laid-off firefighters from Gloucester City and Collingswood

\”I’m looking at deviating (from the list),\” Foglio added. \”I’m a realist. I’m a manager and I have to have some fiscal responsibility. Normally we would operate in the traditional manner and take people off the list, but it takes at least nine weeks to train firefighters. At this point, at the rate we are using overtime and filling the holes we have and trained these new firefighters, it would put me in the red for overtime. At some point I would have to declare a state of emergency and money would be pulled from the 2011 budget.\”
Foglio said that would mean that \”a pound of flesh\” would come from the fire department’s 2011 budget. Foglio has interviewed firefighters from Gloucester City and Collingswood. Gloucester City has a 34-man department and is eliminating a third of that number due to a $1.2 million cut in extraordinary state aid. With retirements, eight firefighters will lose their jobs. These firefighters are scheduled to be laid off on June 30.

Rutala said that if the city hires the three firefighters from Gloucester City they would start at the base salary for incoming firefighters. The starting salary for firefighters is now around $38,000 with the implementation of a two-tier hiring system in the last FMBA (Firemen’s Benevolent Association) contract.

Leon A. Kuczynski, age 92, Longtime member of American Legion Post#135

On June 15, 2010. Age 92. Of Gloucester Heights. Loving husband of the late Stephanie \"AmericanLegion_logo\" (nee Kobylinski). Devoted father of Vincent Kuczynski (Marie) and Carol Burton (Russ). Cherished grandfather of Tara (Tom), Ryan, Brianna and Bridgette. Beloved great-grandfather of Melani and Bradley. Dear Brother of Ann Kobylinski, Helen Kondreski and Chester Kuczynski.

Leon was a longtime resident of the Gloucester Heights section of Gloucester City. He was a member of the Gloucester City American Legion Post # 135. Mr. Kuczynski was directly involved with the construction of the Post #135 home located at Cumberland and Atlantic Streets in Gloucester City. Leon was known for riding his bicycle with his beloved dog Antoine around Gloucester City and Brooklawn.
