Together, they were fishing the lake at Moorman Park early Thursday evening, pushed off the Mississippi River by the flooding waters but nevertheless finding a way to keep their family tradition alive.
Once a week, during the summer months, the Murphys plan a father-son fishing day. It was a tradition John and John Jr. started about 30 years ago when it seemed little league baseball, work and other activities were keeping them apart.
It hasn\’t always worked. When John Jr. was first out of college and working two jobs to build up savings to buy a home, days off were rare. So they penciled in their fishing trips whenever possible.
