HOLLYWOOD – Althea Martin of Absecon, N.J., knocked off defending champion Christina Swanson of Hollywood at the Women\’s Golden Gloves National Tournament on Saturday night at the Hollywood Marriott Beach Resort Hotel.
Swanson, 26, a former University of Miami All-America swimmer, was on the defensive for most of the four-round, 138-pound bout, which Martin won convincingly with a 5-0 decision.
It was back-to-back major wins for Martin, who knocked off No. 1-ranked Queen Underwood of Seattle in the semifinals.
