Gloucester City HS captured its first sectional title after nearly 80 years of play and a host of great players, reaching the Group I state final. Two huge streaks resulted in a record 27 wins. He began three years ago molding this team into a champion, and by this year it was ready to fulfill its potential thanks in large part to the Gloucester County Times Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.

And her teammate, Marissa Cooper won the Basketball Club of South Jersey \”Stacy Cox Memorial Award\” presented to \”A player for dedication and commitment to school and community.\”

What kind of impression of our City does this give to people who live out of town? Not a very nice one. Personally I think the owner (s) of O\’Hara\’s owe Gloucester City residents an apology. And I am asking our Mayor and Council to request the owner of O\’Hara\’s to remove these remarks immediately.

On February 22, 2009, Age 80, yrs. of Gloucester City, born and raised in Camden. He was an employee of International Harvester in Pennsauken, for 23 years.

Cherished father of Barbara of Gloucester City and Joseph of Audubon. Beloved brother of Carmel Bianucci of Cherry Hill and Jeannette Dicarlantonio of Mt. Ephraim. Loving Grandfather of Winfield Watson of Gloucester City, Emmelina and Gianna of Wilmington, DE and Alicia Goodyear of AZ. Dear uncle to several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

Will Rogers once said, \”being a hero is about the shortest-lived profession on earth.\” Luckily running heroes last a lot longer. For those in grade school in 1972 like me, Olympic Gold medallists Dave Wottle and Frank Shorter were our first running heroes. They were the inspiration for all of us at least taking a try at running. Some of us stuck with it and still hold a debt of gratitude to them today. Later inspirational heroes during our own running careers included Bill Rodgers, Alberto Salazar, Steve Scott, and closer to home Browning Ross, Tom Osler, and Lorraine Cephus.
