A newly released report which suggests regulations on small businesses in California have cost the state an estimated $492 million and 3.8 million jobs have spurred gun rights advocates to lobby the governor to veto three upcoming gun control bills.

The report was produced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s office, and prompted the California Association of Firearms Retailers (CAFR) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to focus their efforts on preventing the signing of AB 962, which calls for firearm dealers to keep a registry of ammunition purchases.

Other bills that have been similarly criticized are SB 41, which requires additional paperwork and documentation for firearm sales and SB 585, which would set a precedent for banning gun shows in California.

The governor has until October 11 to veto them.

VA will share more than $17 million in grants with community groups to create 1,155 beds for homeless veterans this year. The money will go to 19 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

A key tool in VA’s drive to eliminate homelessness among veterans, the grants helped to reduce the number of homeless veterans on any given night by 15 percent – down to about 131,000.

In other programs, VA provides health care and other benefits to about 100,000 homeless veterans, including help in obtaining foreclosed homes and excess federal property (i.e., clothes, footwear and blankets).

SCALERA BILL DECLARING OCTOBER AS ITALIAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH NOW LAW

(TRENTON) – Legislation Assemblyman Fred Scalera sponsored to annually designate October as Italian-American Heritage Month to honor the many contributions of Italian-Americans was signed into law Sunday by Gov. Jon S. Corzine.

\”It is fitting and proper to permanently designate October as the month honoring the significant accomplishments and contributions of the Italian-American community,\” said Scalera (D-Essex/Bergen/Passaic). \”More than 1.5 million New Jerseyans – or 18 percent of the state population – are of Italian descent, and Italian-Americans have made many crucial contributions to the history of the United States and New Jersey.\”

Enough is enough.

Recreational anglers should be outraged … as if they aren’t outraged enough already about some existing fishing regulations (i.e. fluke). But this one not only went too far, it might even be unconstitutional.

As of Monday, black sea bass season was shut down outside of 3 miles for 180 days. It’s gone from a 25-fish daily limit at 12.5 inches to a complete closure of the fishery for half a year.

There was no warning, no reduction of the limit from, say, 25 fish to 10. Instead, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration simply closed federal waters in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) … outside 3 miles … from Cape Hatteras, N.C., to the Hague Line in Maine.

Retrofitness franchises have been steadily increasing in number over the last few years.
