BROOKLAWN WOMAN FORMALLY CHARGED WITH MURDER--A Gloucester County grand jury last week formally charged Anne Castagna, 44, of Brooklawn with the alleged murder of her grandmother-in-law Mary Groatman, age 88, with antifreeze. The victim, also of Brooklawn, died on August 19, 2012 after being on life support for four days.
Castagna has been in custody since she was arrested on August 23, 2012. She is charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated-assault. Castagna helped care for Groatman, who is the grandmother of her husband, Andrew Castagna. Neighbors say Groatman lived for years in an upstairs bedroom at their home, until she recently fell and was taken to a rehabilitation center in Deptford, Gloucester County. That is where investigators say she was given the antifreeze.
