Williamsport Resident Sentenced to 70 Months on Federal Tax Charges

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today \"Lady_justice\" that Cheryl Cobia, age 27, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 70 months’ imprisonment by U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann on July 9, 2013, in U.S. District Court in Williamsport.

Cobia pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of conspiracy and false statements in connection with a scheme to file false federal income tax returns in 2009-2011. Cobia was also charged with making false statements in applications for food stamps and medical assistance benefits. Cobia and a co-conspirator used computers to create and file false tax returns seeking refunds totaling more than $1 million.
