Brooklawn Post 72 played anything but gracious host as it took advantage of nearly every opportunity to hang a 12-0 pasting on Funkstown in the first round of the American Legion Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional.Brooklawn scored its first three runs without the benefit of a hit to set an early tone for the game.

The loss drops Funkstown into the double-elimination tournament’s losers’ bracket, where it will play West Seneca (N.Y.) Friday at 12:30 p.m. West Seneca dropped a 6-2 decision to Boyertown, Pa., in the second game of the eight-team tournament.

Brooklawn will face Boyertown in a winners’ bracket game Friday at 7 p.m.

Funkstown starter J.T. Root struggled through four hitless innings, allowing four runs with eight walks, while striking out five. Funkstown pitchers issued 12 walks in the game.

Post 211 managed just one hit in the game, a third-inning single by Enfield. Funkstown had only four baserunners.

Brooklawn starter Michael Shawaryn went six innings, allowing one hit and a walk, while striking out nine.

Brooklawn used five walks and a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
