press release September 6, 2013
If anyone thinks drug addiction hurts no one but the addict, let them read the words of David A. Zane Jr.’s mother.
Zane (DOB 8/12/88), of Mantua Twp., was sentenced today (9/6) to concurrent 365-day state prison terms for burglary and theft at his mother’s home and two other Mantua residences in February and April 2013. He pleaded guilty to the charges 7/22/13.
Before sentencing, Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Bryant Flowers read into the court record a letter from Zane’s mother, Lisa MacMullin, explaining why she wasn’t there and addressing her son’s wrongdoing.
Her absence from court came after weeks of struggling with his plight and her wish to speak directly to Zane, who has been in county jail for months.
\”But instead of allowing today to be about you, ,David, today is about your sister. We are leaving to take her to college, something you should have been here for,\” she wrote.
