  • \” I accept the cluster steering committee recommendation that St. Mary School, Gloucester remain as presently configured. It also will be expected to grow current enrollment, implement institutional advancement programs, re-constitute their school boards and operate with a balanced budget, \” Bishop Galante

Good afternoon.

Last year I announced to the people of the Diocese the start of a comprehensive elementary school planning initiative to strengthen Catholic school education in the six southern counties of New Jersey.

This process was given the name \”Faith in the Future\” in recognition of how important Catholic schools are to the total formation of our young people, the confidence we have in the long-term viability of Catholic schools, and our optimism in the future of our Church.

Mrs. Patricia B. Murtaugh Succumbs, GHS Alumnus Class of \’55; \”Live well, laugh often, love much\”

\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef0192ac4fe308970d-200wi\"Patricia B (nee Bryson) Murtaugh, aged 76 years, passed away suddenly on April 24, 2014.

Born in Camden and raised in Gloucester City, Pat proudly graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1955. A few years later, she met a young man, Charles Murtaugh, a Westville boy who had recently returned home from the Service. They fell in love and shared 55 years of married life together. Pat held several office-related jobs during her life, but her most important job was that of homemaker where she gave of herself so lovingly to create a wonderful, happy home for her family. She was her family’s biggest cheerleader from the time her children were young all the way through their college years–never missing an event or game.

Among her many passions, Pat enjoyed organizing luncheons and reunions with her fellow Class of ’55 classmates, creating handmade crafts, photography, trips to the casino, and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren and her first great-grandchild that she was so excited to recently meet. Pat will be fondly remembered as a caring, loving, kind woman who lived by these words; \”Live well, laugh often, love much.\”

Pat is the beloved wife of Charles E. Murtaugh, dear mother of Chuck (Joanna) Murtaugh, Stephen (Barbara) Murtaugh, Jeannemarie (Glenn) Rambo and the late Kelly Murtaugh; devoted sister of Martha \”Pat\” Daisey, loving grandmother of Amy, Nicole, Chase, Connor & Chloe Murtaugh and Jordan Rambo; great-grandmother of Aaron Farley.

Relatives and friends are invited to join Pat’s family for her viewing Tuesday evening from 6-9 PM in the McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury. A second viewing will be held on Wednesday morning in St. Mary’s R. C. Church, 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester, NJ after 9:30 AM. Pat’s Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM in the Church. Interment will follow at New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to St. Mary’s R. C. Church, 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester, NJ 08030. Tributes and memories may be shared by visiting www.mcgfuneral.com.
