Never-Before-Published Photo of Marilyn Monroe Found in a Shoebox

\"Grandfather-and-Marilyn-Monroe\"PORTLAND, Maine, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Marilyn Monroe is arguably one of the most iconic figures of the 20 th century. It is not often that a never-before-seen pristine image of her from her prime emerges. But one such photo was discovered in a shoebox of old family photos from more than half a century ago.

This photograph of Marilyn Monroe was taken during a little known adventure that occurred in 1954 when she went to Korea for 10 days to visit the troops. She interrupted her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio in Tokyo to go to Korea with the USO. This was the first time she had ever been out of the United States. With Marilyn is Col. Jack Kelsey, commander of the Taegu Air Force Base and grandfather of Chris Orestis, CEO of Life Care Funding in Portland, Maine.

At the time of the photo she was 28. She died a short eight years later on Aug. 5, 1962. If she were alive today she would be 84 years old.

SJ Catholics Organize Mission to Uganda

 

\"DrDr. Joe Dobrosky holds a child during a medical mission to Uganda. The trip was organized by the Friends of Father Vincent, a nonprofit organization started by parishioners

of St. Charles Borromeo, Sicklerville.

In June, the Friends of Father Vincent, a South Jersey group, led a medical mission to Paidha, Uganda, bringing more than $10,000 worth of medicine and medical supplies to the community.

Led by Dick and Marie Schmitt of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Sicklerville, the non-profit organization provided medical supplies that were purchased with funds from donations and fundraisers. Three doctors, a nurse practitioner, two nurses, and administrative help made the journey to Paidha.

Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to hold  

DOVER (Aug. 28, 2014) – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) will hold a public hearing on a draft addendum to the Atlantic Striped Bass Interstate Fisheries Management Plan at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11 in the DNREC Auditorium, 89 Kings Highway, Dover. The hearing will give the public an overview of the draft addendum, which proposes new fishing mortality reference points as recommended by the 2013 stock assessment, along with three options in associated management measures to reduce fishing mortality to a level at or below the proposed target within one or three years.

Crime: Gloucester City PD Responds to 9 Domestic Violence Cases, 7 MVC, and Arrest 23 Suspects

August 22nd. (10:30 pm) Denise M. Laute (52), currently homeless, was arrested on Market Street at 3rd. Street for bench warrants and bail jumping. She was later released on bail.


August 22nd. (8:16 pm) William J. Culfin 3rd. (27), was arrested on Atlantic Street at Somerset Street for bench warrants. He was later released on bail.

August 23rd. (1:53 pm) A resident of the 100 block of Sylvan Avenue reported sometime between 7:30 am and 1:00 pm unknown person(s) forced entry into the home through the back door and stole a jewelry box. The investigation is ongoing.

August 23rd. (9:51 am) A resident of the 800 block of Cumberland Street reported sometime overnight, unknown person(s) siphoned the gas out of her vehicle while it was parked in front of her house.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, photographs of Gloucester City\’s veterans are priceless.

That is why Mayor William James, his advisory committee, and several of the town\’s numerous and extraordinarily dedicated veterans of foreign wars are putting out the hue and cry for pictures of the approximately 68 townsmen who gave their lives defending the United States and its allies.

Their campaign intends to bring 2 feet by four feet banners with photos and other relevant details for each lost veteran to existing poles along Broadway during the months of May and October, when the nation celebrates Memorial Day and Veterans\’ Day, respectively.
