Mrs. Linda \”Bernice\” Light, Known For Her Smile, Generosity, Laughter, Southern Hospitality

 

Mrs. Linda \”Bernice\” Light, (nee Kelly), of Gloucester City, NJ, passed away on December 23,

2014, surrounded by family. She was 89-years-old. Known, to all, for her generosity, warm smile and contagious laughter, she was affectionately called \”Grandma Light\”.  Proud of her country cooking, she delivered true southern hospitality to everyone that visited Grandma’s house.

 Bernice, the daughter of a coal miner, was born September 6, 1925 in the Appalachian Mountains on Kelly’s Mountain, Harlan County, Kentucky. Bernice moved to Gloucester City in 1956 where she raised 6 children. Bernice worked for 15+ years at the Holiday Inn as a union waitress, serving many well know celebrities and retired proudly with a union pension. Her favorite past time was watching her grandchildren play sports and cheering on the Eagles with her husband, Milton. Her favorite time of the year was the 4th of July, when family and friends would gather in her front yard to watch the fireworks. 

She outlived her parents Hobart and Dolly Kelly, her twin sister Burnette Guido and brother Clarence Kelly. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years Milton, devoted children; Billy (Peggy) Light, Linda Light, David (Kristine) Light, Michael (Marcia) Light, and Margaret \”Bootsie\” (Ted) Rebstock, and pre-deceased by Steven Light. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Kelly Anne (Paul) Erlink, Billy (Jung) Light Jr, Kati (James) Light, Megan (Joseph) Mason, MollyAnne Light, David H. Light, Steven T. Light, Michael Light, Caitlin Light, Isaac Light, Isabel Light, Kelly Rose Rebstock, Teddy Rebstock, and Dylan Rebstock, 10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous friends and loved ones. 

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, January 3rd at the Highland Park Church of God, 111 Baynes Ave., Gloucester City, NJ from 10 – 11 am with a church service to follow at 11 am. Interment in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Feed the children.org: 333 N Meridian, Oklahoma City, Ok, 73107. Please write in memo: Bernice Light.
