(CNBNews.net)–Dr. John Murphy, 68, of La Jolla, California, died suddenly Friday, March 13, 2015. John is a former resident of Gloucester City NJ, and a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, Class of 1964. In high school \”Murph\” was a star basketball player. In 1964 he played on the team that won the state championship beating St. Aloysius 73-51. Gloucester Catholic High School ended that season as the number one ranked team in South Jersey.
Dr. John Murphy was an orthopedic surgeon in San Diego, California. He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and has been in practice for 40 years.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Courtney, and is survived by his sons Christopher and John from his first marriage, a daughter Tara, and his children Quinn, Danny and Henry from his marriage to Courtney.
John is also survived by his brother Henry Murphy of Gloucester, N.J., sister Joan Upton of Virginia Beach, VA; grandsons Jackson, Charlie, Henry, and Gus Murphy; nieces Ann Marie, Eileen, Ruth Ann, Claire Marie, Maureen, Kathleen, Patricia, and Helen, and nephews Michael, Kevin, and Timothy.
A celebration of John\’s life will be held at La Jolla Christian Fellowship, 627 Genter Street, at 3 p.m. on March 22, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association , Bucknell University, Temple University School of Medicine, or a charity of your choice .
