Tommie Narseille Young Ridinger, age 95, joined her husband Richard in the afterlife. She left us peacefully in her home, in her own bed, at 28 Ash Ave. West Deptford on Monday August 3rd 2015 at 6:04pm. She was just shy of her 96th birthday which would have been on August 11th, but decided she did not want to spend even one birthday without her husband of 70 years who passed in February of this year. We believe she joined him and are reunited. Tommie was a true \”Georgia Peach\”, a proper red head \”Southern Bell\” which Richard affectionately referred to as \”his doll\”.
Tommie was born on August 11, 1919 in Newnan Georgia, to Eunice Boyd and Andy Hershel Young along with a brother Andy Jr. (AH) and a older sister, Sarah Saffir, both deceased. She is survived by 2 sons: Jim \”JR with wife Loren and Tom and wife Susan, with 4 grandchildren who she adored: Amanda, Amber, Andy and Alex and 2 great grandchildren by Amber: Ayden and Ayva.
Tommie graduated from Piedmont Nursing College, Summa cum laude, in Nursing and a degree in Education at Glassboro State Colleges and was a operating room nurse and later a school nurse. Tommie was a veteran of World War II In France as an O.R. nurse and 1st Lieutenant where she met her husband, Dick, who was also a celebrated officer and infantry veteran. They were married in 1947
Tommie and \”Coach\” Dick were inseparable and \”champions\” at mentoring and inspiring young people. But most importantly she was a devoted wife and she and Dick were a real life version of the movie \”Notebook\”! She and Dick were avid gardeners and adventuresome travelers in their retirement.
She was the perfect mother and friend and lived her life by giving to others.
The funeral is at McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ. 856-845-0008 The viewing and memorial service will be between 11:30 and 1:00 PM immediately followed by the burial at Woodbury Memorial Park, West Deptford, NJ.
