THE STORY OF CAPTAIN BARRY GALFANO \”In his own words.\”

When Barry was just ten, he began training his first German Shepherd. \”I wanted him to be just like Rin Tin Tin,\” he said. The basic course for police dogs and their handlers is sixteen weeks. Training the dogs to find dead bodies, narcotics, and other search and rescue tasks takes another twelve weeks – that’s a total of twenty-eight weeks, almost a half year. Barry supervised all the dogs who responded to the attacks in NYC on 9/11.

Barry’s long hours at Ground Zero over the span of many months is the reason, his doctors say, he got cancer. After a superhuman struggle against the disease, Barry finally succumbed to his illness on June 26, 2011.

Here’s a video of what Barry had to say just weeks before he died (WARNING: May be disturbing to some readers): via apbweb.com

CNB Medical News: Being Overweight May Increase Risk of Type of Brain Tumor

Newswise — MINNEAPOLIS – Being overweight or obese may be tied to an increased risk of a type of brain \"\"tumor called meningioma, according to a new meta-analysis published in the September 16, 2015, online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. Meningiomas occur at a rate of about five to eight cases per 100,000 people per year. The five-year survival rate for meningioma is 63 percent.

\”This is an important finding since there are few known risk factors for meningioma and the ones we do know about are not things a person can change,\” said meta-analysis author Gundula Behrens, PhD, of the University of Regensburg in Regensburg, Germany. \”Given the high prevalence of obesity and the unfavorable prognosis for this type of tumor, these findings may be relevant for strategies aimed at reducing the risk of meningioma.\”

On the ropes, Christie hopes CNN debate begins his comeback

By Mark Lagerkvist | New Jersey Watchdog

With his White House run on the ropes, Chris Christie came out swinging Wednesday night at the prime-time Republican presidential debate on CNN.

Instead of duking it out with the other 10 GOP hopefuls on the stage, the New Jersey governor aimed his blows at opponents who weren’t present — President Barrack Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Democratic-controlled legislature in his home state.
