THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY: What does grocery shopping have to do with Canada?

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (February 10, 2022)(CNBNewnet)Last week when my Social Security check came, I bought double of everything in the grocery store.  I may go back this weekend and do the same.  Why?  What does grocery shopping have to do with Canada?

Even if you have been following the Canadian truckers’ convoy online you probably haven’t gotten the full story.  As was the case in America, truckers, health care workers, police, and the military were considered heroes during the pandemic.  A year later many of these same people are losing their jobs if they refuse to get vaccinated, regardless of the reason.  Canadians, however, are going a step farther.  They are not protesting having to get vaccinated, most are vaccinated, they are protesting their right to make their own decisions.

Some tv/radio stations reported that there were a few dozen trucks in the convoy.  The truth?  The convey started in British Columbia (on the Pacific Coast) and drove to their capital city of Ottawa (north of New York state.)  Truck after truck joined the 2,000+ mile trek and by the time they approached their capital the convoy was 40 miles long.

Their “president” in Canada is called the Prime Minister; his name is Justin Trudeau.  He is 50 years old and the son of a former Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau.  When the caravan of trucks reached Ottawa Justin wasn’t there to welcome them.  He called them the usual names (Nazi, Racist, and worse) before leaving the capital.  He hasn’t been seen in public since then.

Getting back to groceries.  All the truckers want is for “Little Justie” as he is now called to meet with them.  Each day he refuses the truckers come closer to the American boarder.  At this point they have closed some of the most important boarders – New York/Ontario, Detroit/Winsor, and Montana/Alberta.  Food and goods are no longer crossing the boarders at the cost of $300 million a day!

That’s the reason why you might want to stock up on groceries.

The Canadians have been peaceful in their protest, many citizens of Ottawa comparing them to block parties.  American truckers are starting to join our Canadian neighbors and as they build steam you may find more and more empty shelves in the grocery stores.

Who would have thought that 244 years after we declared our freedom from England two neighboring countries would fight for their freedom again.
