
GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (March 15, 2022)(CNBNewsnet)–This past week, the Gloucester High School boys basketball team finished its historic run in NJSIAA State Playoffs. The Lions finished the season 21-10 were able to capture the school’s first sectional title in 51 years of our program’s rich history.
This team’s run started with a win over 13th seeded Clayton by a score of 87-67. Leading the Lions in scoring was Jr. Liam Gorman with 33 points. Also highlighted in that game were 1000 point scorer and Senior Captain, Steven Light, who finished with his first career triple-double (24 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists). Box Score Below.

For the second round of the NJSIAA playoffs, Gloucester hosted 5th seeded Glassboro in front of a capacity crowd. The Lions were able to control the game from the start and defeated the Bulldogs 58-43. The boys finished with a balanced attack in the scoring column: S. Light 14, Hagan 13, Gorman 11, M. Light 10, Burkhardt 8, Delgado 2. This was the Lions final home game of the year and finished with a home record of 13-6. Box Score Below.

Gloucester advanced to the first SJ Sectional Final Game in 23 years. The program had made the Group 2 finals twice in 1998 and 1999. The Lions traveled to Salem City to take on 2nd seeded Salem (21-8). The Salem Rams had a large group of players that won the Group 1 sectional title in football this past fall. The Lions controlled the tempo from the start and built a 7 point lead at half.

Junior Liam Gorman had a monster second half and finished with 15 points including three 3’s. Steven Burkhardt and Steven Light controlled the boards all game with 15 and 11 rebounds respectively. The scoring column was once again very balanced as the boys adjusted to Salem’s full-court defense: Gorman 15, S. Light 14, Hagan 10, Burkhardt 9, M. Light 4, Delgado 2. Box Score Below.
