Nancy H. Taylor of Texas, Past Gcity Resident, GHS and Douglas C. Alum

Nancy H. Taylor, nee Plews, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 30, 2025 at her home in Brookshire, TX from pancreatic cancer. 

She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 15, 1942 to Harry and Marian Plews. Nancy was the second-born of five children, where the family grew up in Gloucester City, NJ in a bustling house on Monmouth street. She attended high school at Gloucester City High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the student council, and a member of the National Honor Society. It was here in Gloucester City where she met Bill Taylor, and they began dating during their high school years. Nancy attended Douglas College of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ where she received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. After college, Nancy and Bill married on October 17, 1964 and settled in Gloucester Township, NJ. In 1981, Bill’s job opportunities led the family to Texas where they settled in Spring, TX, and remained there for 40 years before moving to Brookshire, TX with their daughters in 2021.

Joan M. McCarthy, 83, of Cherry Hill

Joan (Scholes) McCarthy, 83, of Cherry Hill, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughters on October 1, 2025.

Joan was a devoted mother, wife, sister, and dear friend to many. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gene, and she is survived by their three daughters: Bond (John) Kraemer, Eaen (Dan) Marini and Cara Czeiner; six grandchildren, Drew, Trevor, Zackary, Alex, Arden, Hannah; her dear cousin, Kathy (Edward) Braun; and many more family and friends.

Joan was a talented artist, working as an art teacher for many years and then a special needs teacher until her retirement.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, October 10, 2025, 10 AM to 11 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Holy Saviour Church,  50 Emerald Ave., Westmont, NJ.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM.  Interment private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to the Cathedral Kitchen (www.cathedralkitchen.org) in Camden, where Joan and Gene volunteered for many years.

Merrick’s OT Goal Gives #20 Rowan Field Hockey a 4-3 Win over Lynchburg

GLASSBORO, NJ – Gracie Merrick scored two minutes into overtime to lift #20 Rowan over #20 (tie) Lynchburg, 4-3, in non-conference field hockey action to extend the Profs’ winning streak to four. Merrick’s sudden victory goal was her first gamewinner of the season and the third of her career, while also her first goal of the year.
