Matthew J. Storey, 74, of AZ, formerly of Bellmawr and Marlton died March 7, 2020.

He was the former VP of Operations of Pep Boys. He was predeceased by his parents,

Matthew and Elizabeth, and his sister, Anne Corsey.

Matt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen; two sons, Matthew III and Steven; his sister, Elizabeth (Bud)Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Monday 9-10am at St. Joachim/Annunciation Church 601 W. Browning Rd. Bellmawr, NJ where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am. Burial New St. Mary Cemetery Bellmawr.

Major Drug Ring Operating in Gloucester City & Camden City is Busted; 18 Arrested

How A South Jersey Drug Ring Was Taken Down

CAMDEN CITY, N.J. – The United States Attorney Craig Carpenito announced today that there were 18 people arrested, (two remain at-large) by the FBI that were involved in two drug trafficking operations operating out of Gloucester City and Camden City.

Authorities identified the ring leaders as Rocco DePoder for the Gloucester City operation and Erick Bell and Alfred Kee Jr. for the Camden City operation.

The other suppliers, resellers and associates charged in the complaints used the following means to facilitate the pill trafficking: Bell, Kee and DePoder would solicit the suppliers, including certain defendants named in the complaints, and others, primarily over the telephone, to supply them with quantities of oxycodone, Adderall and Xanax for DePoder, and oxycodone for Bell and Kee.

Allegedly after receiving substantial quantities of pills at Bell’s home in Camden, DePoder’s home in Gloucester City, and other locations in southern New Jersey (including Lindenwold and Woodbury), Bell and DePoder would take orders for pills over the telephone from others. Bell, Kee, and DePoder would provide purchasers with these pills. The defendants employed coded language and used multiple phones to conceal their activities.

Suspects Rocco and Michael DePoder are the father and brother of Gloucester City Detective Carl Depoder.

City Police Chief Brian Morrell said his department was not involved in the investigation for obvious reasons.

Rocco DePoder has lived in the unit block of South Stinson Avenue for decades. He is a building contractor who owned several rental properties in Gloucester City. Early this morning, around 5 AM residents were awakened by an FBI agent shouting over a bullhorn, \”This is the FBI come out without any weapons with your hands in the air.\”

Residents said they were scared to death.

\”I looked out my door and all I could see were flashing red lights and vehicles on South Stinson Avenue,\” said one resident.

\”It was pitch dark.\”

Another person said, \”I saw men dressed in SWAT gear carrying rifles. I didn\’t know what was happening. Once I saw the guns I got back to my house, stayed away from the windows and hid in my bedroom.\”

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court: The charges and arrests are the results of a wiretap investigation led by the FBI into drug distribution operations that dealt in, among other drugs, high-dose, 60- and 80-mg oxycodone pills.

The defendants were charged with conspiring to possess and distribute drugs in two complaints unsealed today. Sixteen of the defendants were arrested today and are scheduled to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judges Joel Schneider and Karen M. Williams in Camden federal court. Two defendants remain at large.

The conspiracies charged in the complaints carry a maximum prison term of 20 years and a maximum fine of $1 million.

U.S. Attorney Carpenito credited special agents of FBI Philadelphia Division, South Jersey Resident Agency, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Tara McMahon; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Office of the Inspector General, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Scott J. Lampert; the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Gilbert L. Wilson; New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, under the direction of Director Jared M. Maples; the Camden County Police Department, under the direction of Chief Joseph Wysocki; and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Office of Inspector General, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Bethanne M. Dinkins, with the investigation.

He also thanked the FBI Newark Division, New Jersey State Police, Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their assistance.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gabriel J. Vidoni of the Office’s Camden branch, and Sara F. Merin and Mark J. McCarren of the Newark Office.

The charges and allegations contained in the complaints are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Joseph P. Naleski, better known as Paps, age 76 of Audubon Park, passed away on Sunday February 23rd, 2020 at Virtua Hospital, in Marlton, NJ.

Joe was born in Baldwin, PA and had been an Audubon Park resident. He served in the United States Air Force, retiring after 26 years. He made a second career at the United States postal Service, and retired after 25 years.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and watching football, especially his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, while sipping on a rum and coke. His favorite activity was pushing his luck playing the NJ lottery. Joe will be remembered as an easy going and laid back father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Joe is the son of the late Joseph S. and Irene E. (nee Lijewski) Naleski. He is the father of; LuAnn and her late husband Tim Mallison, Lynn and her husband Dennis Gilmore, and Lori and her husband Dwight Massey. He is the proud grandfather of Shane Mallison, Shea Mallison and Shawn Mallison, Tierney Gilmore, Killian Gilmore, Seamus Gilmore, Cormac Gillmore, Xavier Massey and Jada Massey. Joe is also survived by his brother Richard and his wife Barbara Naleski, sister Janet and her late husband Ronald Lasich, as well as his nieces and nephews; Jerome Naleski, Peter Naleski, Sarah Naleski, Patricia Smercani and Ronald Lasich.

In honor of Joe Naleski, relatives, neighbors, and friends are invited to join the Naleski family on Wednesday morning at 9:30 am at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown, NJ 08562, where the United States Air Force commemoration and niche placement will take place.

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (February 29, 2020)—-The annual St. Mary\’s Parish/Gloucester City St. Patrick\’s Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 1 PM sharp rain or shine. The parade will take the same route as last year, forming and staging at the Martin’s Lake area, at Johnson Blvd. and Baynes Ave. marching on Johnson Blvd. to Monmouth Street, up Monmouth Street to King, and dispersing at the former Coast Guard Base parking lot, King and Cumberland Streets.

It will begin at Johnson Blvd and Baynes Avenue, north to Monmouth and Johnson Blvd., move west on Monmouth Street to King Street and south on King Street to Proprietors Park.

The following bands and marching units will be in the line of march:

South Philadelphia, Quaker City, Fralinger, Woodland, Avalon, Aqua, Uptown, Duffy, Durning, and the Gloucester City String Band.

The Camden County Emerald Society, Second Street Irish Society, Trenton AOH, ACFD Sand Pipers, and Brian Boru Pipes and Drums Bands.

Altman sells out Cory Booker Says James Beach & Barbara Holcomb

Last week, instead of standing with New Jersey\’s progressive champion Cory Booker, paid political protester and lifelong Republican Sue Altman decided to stand with his opponent.

Cory has been a persistent advocate for South Jersey and true progressive in the Senate on issues such as civil rights, social justice, and environmental protection. When Donald Trump abused his power as President, Cory stood up to Senate Republicans and fought for a fair impeachment trial. We are proud to support Cory Booker for another term in the Senate and disappointed that Altman once again put her personal political calculations ahead of reelecting one of the most progressive leaders in New Jersey. Although we find Altman\’s stance disconcerting, it is unsurprising considering she failed to vote for Cory Booker in 2013 as he became our first African American United State Senator from New Jersey. In fact, Altman failed to vote in the Primary Elections for Democrat candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, Barbara Buono, Jon Corzine, and Jim McGreevey because she had been a lifelong registered Republican.

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ –Monsignor William Hodge, Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Gloucester City, along with Charlie Kain, President of the New Jersey Irish Society, and Mayor Dan Spencer remind residents that the Fifth Annual St. Mary Parish St. Patrick’s Parade will be held this coming Sunday, March 1, at 1:00 PM sharp.

THERE IS NO RAIN/SNOW DATE.

Registration is now open for all organizations, clubs, Irish groups, dancers, churches, businesses, and all who would like to march and participate in this festive parade and day of events. We welcome all towns and groups from all over the Delaware Valley to participate, so spread the word! Registration forms are available at the St. Mary Rectory office from 9-3 pm, Monday to Friday or by calling 856.456.0052. The registration fee is $25.

Your Voice Matters to the Future of Catholic Schools!

Attached please find the first two ACTION ALERTS for the Governor\’s 2020-2021 state budget. The nonpublic school community has two major \”ASKS\” this budget season.

They are:

1. To increase the per pupil allotment for Compensatory Ed (Chapter 192) from $995.00 per service to $1100.00 per service. This allotment has not been increased in over 10 years.

2. To increase the per pupil allotment for transportation/aid in lieu from $1000.00 to $1050.00. Although the increase to $1000 two years ago was a big help, there are still many students not receiving transportation because the bus companies are not bidding on certain routes.

Our task now is to contact Governor Murphy and ask him to include these increases in his budget. There is not a lot of time to do this, because the Governor\’s budget will be released on February 25th, which is a week earlier than usual.

The Diocese has asked that we use the Voter Voice system as directed in the attachments (see links below). We are counting on the entire Catholic school community, not just those who have students in the Comp Ed program or have students who receive bus transportation, to support this effort. The advantage of using the Voter Voice is in the large number of communications it can generate with a very minimal investment of time on the part of the sender.

So once again, the budget process has begun, and we need the cooperation of everyone in the Catholic school community to advocate on behalf of the students in our schools.
