New Super Pumper Coming To Gloucester County
January 8, 2007
New Jersey – The system is designed especially to combat large petrochemical flammable liquid fires and for any large major disasters that would need a large supply of water. The Super Pumper called the Neptune. The pumper is capable of pumping 5,000 gallons of water per minute over a distance of one mile. It will be pumped through a twelve inch diameter flexible above ground Fire hose.
The State of New Jersey through The Homeland Security & Preparedness has purchased three such units, one for North Jersey, Central Jersey and South Jersey. At a recent demonstration along the Delaware River in West Deptford Township was attended by local fire chiefs and various State officials and witnessed a spectacular show of water power.
For many it was the first time they had ever seen 12 inch diameter fire hose with a large manifold capable of also supplying six pumpers with 5 inch hose and still capable of throwing a large stream of water over a city block long.
The Super Pumper system that will be coming to South Jersey will consist of a Neptune pump module capable of delivering 5,000 gallons per minute (gpm) of water over a distance of one mile and a vehicle to deploy the pump module. One mile of 12 inch diameter flexible above ground fire hose and a vehicle to transport the hose.
An Iron man Water firefighting foam nozzle capable of handling 5,000 to 10,000 gpm. A 4,000 gallon foam tanker and Six –1,000 gpm water foam nozzles.
At a cost of $1.4 million dollars. Delivery should be made some time in mid 2007. The system can also be used to pump potable water up to a mile when regular water supplies are not available. In addition, it can be used as a flood mitigation system to pump out large volumes of floodwater.
