West Deptford might not have the most experienced girls\’ lacrosse coach in South Jersey, but it probably has the tallest.
And if overall track record is any indication, they might also have one of the best.
In their third year as a varsity program, the Eagles welcomed Jackie Trakimas (pictured)– better known as one of the area\’s best basketball minds — as their new head coach.
After a tough loss to Pennsauken on Monday, her new team rewarded Trakimas with her first lacrosse win — a thrilling 11-10 triumph at Rancocas Valley.
That makes 369 victories for her coaching career. (photo by Al Schell/Courier Post)
\”It was a situation where there was a need and being in-house, I was happy to step forward,\” said Trakimas, who played lacrosse in college.
Also West Deptford\’s girls\’ basketball coach, she said the similar athletic principles behind the two sports has helped her adjust.
\”It\’s hilarious because I\’ve taken a lot of basketball drills and just turned them into lacrosse drills,\” she said. \”There are some situations where I wonder if I\’m teaching the right thing with the openness of the field, but things seem to be working.\”
Trakimas has put together a coaching record that is both formidable and diverse.
