BROOKLYN, N.Y — Second- seeded Rutgers collected 18 hits and broke a 2-2 with a seven-run sixth inning en route to a 13-2, eight-inning victory over seventh- seeded Notre Dame in the Big East Baseball Tournament first round yesterday at KeySpan Park.
The Scarlet Knights (37-18) will face third-seeded Louisville at 5 p.m. today, Thursday.
Big East Player of the Year Todd Frazier went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, Mike Bionde went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run, and Tom Edwards went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, backing winning pitcher Steve Healing.
Rider at NCAA regionals
LAWRENCE — Five members of the Rider University track and field teams will compete in NCAA Division Regional I action Friday and Saturday at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Senior Jazmine Fenlator will compete in the women\’s shot put, discus and hammer, and senior David Payne will compete in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Sophomore Desmond Hamilton will compete in the men\’s long jump, sophomore Kelly Kajunski will compete in the women\’s high jump and junior Rebecca Clatch will compete in the women\’s javelin.

PRINCETON TOWNSHIP — Princeton will play a Friday night game on ESPNU for a second straight season, this time Oct. 26 against Cornell (7 p.m.).
