The club as a whole tallied 27 deer, including six bucks. I took two deer — a doe and a decent 10-point buck. There were many other memorable hunts as well.
One bow hunt in Lee County stands out. As I was perched in a climbing stand about 18 feet up a red oak, four nice does foraged around me. Two were yearlings, and two were mature mama does, wary as most bucks and trophies, to me, with the bow.
As I bided my time, they finally made their way into a logging road. The two older deer knew something wasn\’t right, and for nearly an hour they stared at me, heads bobbing and feet stamping. I couldn\’t move. Finally, a maniacal squirrel scampered through, spooking them and ending the evening.
