The Tanning Rooms are named Tranquil, Serenity, Paradise and Sunset. Mood music relaxes you as you are on your way to a nice healthy look. According to owner, Joe Kent, (photo) there are many steady, loyal customers who come to the Tropical Illusions Salon and they all are treated to the tropical scenery as they enter the salon and while getting a tan.
Some customers visit the Salon in order to get a base tan before vacationing. \”This can help in preventing bad sunburn,\” Joe said. The ten to fifteen minute sessions are relaxing and can certainly be a mood-up lifter.
A bathing suit may be worn in the private tanning booths and tanning beds. If you prefer an all over body tan, there is complete privacy. \”Occasionally, we would have to knock on the door to wake up a snoozing customer,\” said Maria, a salon employee, who along with Patty and Jessica, assist the men and women with their tanning.
Yes, men and women of all ages from 16 to 75 years old are customers. \”We are especially busy near Prom time. In the afternoons, many students will come in after school. We do have a lot of mother and daughter coming in to get a tan together,\” said Joe.
Seniors may partake of the tanning process for a nice price of $99.00 for three months. At the present time, the cost of a one week unlimited tanning bed is only $17.00. Or the cost of the beds range from one session at $8.00 up to ten sessions at $42.00 and monthly sessions are available at special prices.
If you prefer to stand and get your tan, the booth is private and you can even have your teeth whitened at the same time if you like.
Use of the VHR Booth varies from a charge of $12.00 for one session and up to $100.00 for 10 sessions. There are always specials available and flyers may be picked up at the salon. \”Word of mouth brings in a lot of our customers. We also advertise in the local newspapers, appear on Channel 19 and have our flyers displayed in area diners,\” Joe said
\”Every six months, we like to change the bulbs in the equipment to produce an increased enhancement of the tanning process. We have new Sizzler 10.5 replacement bulbs ready to be installed now,\” said Joe.
If you would like to purchase some tanning lotions to help accelerate your tan before you go into the bed, the salon has \”tingles \” and \”no tingles\” lotions, moisturizers, and various bronze tanning lotions. Toe rings, bracelets, tank tops, sweat shops and other accessories are for sale in the salon.
The previous owner of Tropical Illusions was Thomas Stewart, who perished while on duty as a Gloucester City fire fighter on the Fourth of July, 2002 in Gloucester City. \”Tom\’s family helped me out a lot with the business when I purchased Tropical Illusions in November 2001,\” Joe said. Joe is a Gloucester City resident and is retired from the Waterford Township Police Department.
\”Get a golden tan without the sun\”, the Tropical Illusions\’ flyers say. Appointments can be made prior to a visit or there is only a short wait for walk-ins. The salon is open seven days a week from 10am to 9pm Monday thorough Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
