CAMDEN (April 14, 2008) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman Dan Fimiani (Pittsgrove, NJ/Schalick) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Week today after a stellar outing against nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey on Thursday.

In his second collegiate start, Fimiani held the powerful Lions hitless for 6-1/3 innings before allowing an RBI single for his lone hit. He walked five and hit four batters, while striking out one. He allowed one earned run in his 6-1/3 innings and left with a 2-1 lead. He would have had his first collegiate win, but the Lions rallied for four runs in the ninth inning for a 5-2 victory.

Fimiani’s no-hit bid is all the more impressive considering TCNJ is ranked No. 4 in the d3baseball.com Top 25 poll and No. 7 in the ABCA national rankings.

A 6-foot-2 right-hander out of Schalick High School, Fimiani has worked in 10 games, making two starts, for the Scarlet Raptors this season. He has allowed 18 hits and 21 walks in 21-2/3 innings, while striking out 12. Most of that damage came in his first collegiate outing when he allowed three hits, two walks and five earned runs in 2/3 of an inning against Moravian College, Feb. 24. After his first two outings, Fimiani had a 67.50 ERA and he has lowered that mark to 4.98 since then.

Fimiani has been one of the hottest pitchers on the Raptors in the last week, working 9-2/3 innings over three appearances, while allowing only one hit and one earned run.

Fimiani is the second Rutgers-Camden hurler to be honored by the NJAC this season. Junior southpaw Damien Wright (Millville, NJ/Millville) was recognized as the NJAC Pitcher of the Week on March 3.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game at De Sales University. The Scarlet Raptors’ next home game is Friday, when it faces Ramapo College in a 3:30 p.m. NJAC contest.

The Gloucester City Little League Opened the 2008 season on Saturday, April 12 with a parade from King Street down Monmouth Street to \”The Field of Dreams \”on Johnson Blvd.

Saturday was opening day for the Gloucester City Little League.

\”It\’s just like any other year,\” said Barbara Rafferty, who watched her 12-year-old son\’s Rotary team play the Lions.

\”Maybe the only difference was more whispering in the crowd.\”

That was the consensus among parents at the opening games for the league.

Last month, police arrested the league\’s former treasurer, Harry Fox Jr., and charged him with stealing about $53,000 in league funds.

Mary Ann was a long-time resident of Gloucester and a faithful parishioner of St. Mary\’s Church. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary\’s High School in Gloucester City. Mary Ann worked many years as a Secretary in the medical and legal fields.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth St. (at Brown St.) Gloucester City, NJ 08030. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am at Saint Mary\’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Interment New Saint Mary\’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. THOMPSON, JOHN BURNAM \’JACK\’
On April 10, 2008, of Haddon Twp., NJ, age 76.
He is the beloved brother of Fay Lang and the late Florence Foster and loving uncle of Don (Linda), Jack (Marylou) and Scott Lang, Tammy (Dave) Sleiminger, Marlys (Cliff) Prescott, Diane Foster and Nancy (Dan) Joyce. He is also survived by 14 dear great nieces and nephews.

Jack was an employee of RCA/GE for forty years, and worked many of those years at RCA in Deptford, NJ. He was an avid photographer and took many pictures of family and friends. Jack loved to volunteer and spent many hours volunteering at Senior Citizens United Community Services of Camden County. He also enjoyed helping out with the youth ministry of Kid\’s Alley.

Jack also served his country in the U.S. Navy at the U.S. Naval Communications Center at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during the Korean War. \’Uncle Jack\’ was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all, especially his best friend, \’Lady\’.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, 400 WHITE HORSE PIKE, OAKLYN, NJ. Jack\’s funeral service will be held11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Camden County Veterans Cemetery, at Harleigh Cemetery, in Camden. There is no evening viewing. SICKLERVILLE, N.J. — A South Jersey solider returned from Iraq to a surprise homecoming on Saturday morning.Sgt. Donald Brown was in the war zone for about nine months. He returned home about three weeks ago.His wife, Rita, said she wanted to surprise him with a warm welcome home. With the help of other people in Sicklerville, she put on a celebration in her husband\’s honor.

Most days, Williams, 22, plays a waiting game at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, where he faces surgery to repair the knee he wrecked when he jumped from a truck to take cover during a mission in Iraq.

But on April 2, instead of staring at four walls, the soldier sits in a beach chair and threads a worm on a hook. The fish aren\’t biting, but catching one is secondary to simply being outside.

The program, Huntin\’ Buddies, was started by Lisa Webber, of White Hall, who has hunted and fished with her son, Robert, now 19, since he was 7.

When he left last summer for Army National Guard training, she created Huntin\’ Buddies, enlisted volunteers to help, and made contacts at Walter Reed. She now connects injured soldiers with outdoorsmen willing to take them on day trips.

Web sites include, but are not limited to, Family Readiness Group (FRG) pages, unofficial Army web sites, Soldiers’ web logs (blogs), and personal published or unpublished works related to the Army. The AWRAC will ensure a review and analysis is conducted on the suspected data found on the Internet.\”

Funeral services were held for Gary R. Crane, 46, of Bellmawr who passed away on April 8, 2008.

Beloved husband of Joan (nee Davenport). Devoted father of Gretchen Antinucci (Joseph) and Shane Crane. Loving grandfather of Kaylee. Dear brother of Patricia Swartz (Barry). Son-in-law of Carol and Thomas Davenport. Son of Jean McCormick. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
