Scarlet Knights and Bulls Continue Series With 1:00 p.m. Game Saturday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Down, 6-1, entering the seventh, the Rutgers baseball team rallied with a four-run seventh frame but fell just short in a 7-5 loss to USF Friday in the series opener at Bainton Field.
The Scarlet Knights put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh and ninth frames but could not produce the equalizier.
USF plated its first run on a RBI single up the middle from Brian Hobbs with two outs in the first inning. Hobbs then gave the Bulls a 3-0 lead with an RBI double down the right field line in the third to score USF\’s second run of the frame.
Meanwhile, USF starter Daniel Thomas didn\’t surrender his first hit until the third when Dan Betteridge (Sewell, N.J.) slapped a single through the left side. Thomas induced a double play to the next batter and later finished his third scoreless inning.
NOTE – Sunday\’s Rutgers baseball game against USF at Bainton Field, originally scheduled to begin at noon, has been changed to an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.
Junior righty Jason Downey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) will be on the mound for the Scarlet Knights against freshman righty Derrick Stultz for the Bulls.
