Six year old Jimmy McGuckin of Gloucester City had never been fishing. So Dr. Jim Doster, pastor of The Lighthouse Baptist Church, took young Jim to a pond near Bridgeport recently.
Pastor Jim said, \”Within 45 minutes Jimmy caught 8 fish. His mother told me he was so excited he couldn’t sleep that night.\”
The McGuckin Family are faithful parishioners of The Lighthouse House Baptist Church located at the corner of Market and Washington Streets at the railroad tracks.
Readers are invited to send fishing reports and photos to [email protected]
Raise your hand if you think the athletes may not be the primary focus of the XXIX Olympiad in Bejing.
When the International Olympic Committee chose Beijing in 2001 for the XXIX Olympiad, one wonders if the athletes were their main consideration. Or, if it was instead the IOC\’s stated goal to bring the Olympics to every continent– with the athletes an afterthought. Consider the news events of the past month:

A filthy rich North Carolina man decided that he wanted to throw a Party & invited all of his buddies & neighbors.
He also invited Leroy, the only Black man in the neighborhood.
He held the party around the pool in the backyard of his mansion. Leroy was having a good time drinking, dancing, eating Shrimp, oysters, BBQ & flirting with all the women.
At the height of the party, the host said, \’I have a 10 ft man-eating gator In my pool & I\’ll give a million dollars to anyone who has the nerve to jump in.\’
The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a loud splash & everyone turned around & saw Leroy in the pool!
Leroy was fighting the gator & kicking its butt! Leroy was jabbing the Gator in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, head butts & Choke holds, biting the gator on the tail & flipping the gator through the air like some kind of Judo Instructor.
The water was churning & splashing everywhere. Both Leroy & the gator were screaming & raising hell. Finally Leroy strangled the gator & let it float to the top like a dime store goldfish.
Leroy then slowly climbed out of the pool. Everybody was just staring at him in disbelief. Finally the host says, \’Well, Leroy, I reckon I owe you a million dollars.
No, that\’s okay. I don\’t want it,\’ said Leroy. The rich man said, \’Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about half a million bucks then.\”
\’No thanks. I don\’t want it,\’ answered Leroy.
The host said, \’Come on, I insist on giving you something. That was amazing. How about a new Porsche, a Rolex & some stock options?\”
Again Leroy said no.
Confused, the rich man asked, \’Well, Leroy, then what do you want?\’
Â
Leroy said, \’I want the name of the redneck that pushed me in the pool!\’

An elderly lady called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car has been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher: \”They\’ve stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!\” she cried. The dispatcher said, \”Stay calm. An officer is on the way.\” A few minutes later, the officer radios in. \”Disregard.\” He says. \”She got in the back-seat by mistake.\”

Name: Michael Ireland Position: Owner, Primary Site Developer Every since a young age Michael has had the habit of taking electronics apart to see how they work. Sometimes they went back together again, sometimes something better was built with the parts. Everything changed in 1998 when he acquired his first personal computer. He hasn’t looked back since. With an obsession to know everything about computers he taught himself everything there is to know about computers including hardware/software repair, web site design, graphic design, movie editing, and even game development.
In 2000 Michael started working for an industry giant named Staples: The Office Supply Superstore as a part time computer salesman. At the same time he started going to school to get his degree in business management. He excelled at Staples getting promoted 3 times in the first year. Setting multiple company sales records he was Managing his own store by mid-2001 while still going to school to get degree. Staples provided him relevant work experience and knowledge that would help him run his own company in the future. In 2002 Michael received his degree and parted ways with Staples to start his own business, which happened to be Chase Technology.
With the technology field becoming so large, and Chase Technology being such a big part of that, Michael\’s personally stock is destined to keep going up for years to come.
A letter carrier from the Gloucester City Post Office sent me the following TIP earlier this week.
\”As I approached a house where the homeowner was clearing out debris and placing it at the curb for pick-up the Waste Management trash people pulled up. I heard them tell the woman that there was too much trash to pick-up as it exceeded the 10 item limit. I then heard them tell her that a nice monetary tip would take all the trash away. The woman looked stunned and declined their offer. The trash men took a few items and left the rest.
\”As I came down the other side of the street the homeowner came out to me and related the following. She had called the City Highway Department to complain and was told by a woman on the phone that this is not the first time they had heard of the trash people from Waste Management soliciting money.
\”Regarding the limit on trash (10 bags). I have seen numerous homes with a lot more than 10 items and have seen the trash men take it with no questions asked.\”
Bill, have you ever heard of a limit on trash to be picked up? Since my daughter and son- in- law live in your town and pay taxes I would be inclined to believe that they have a right to have their trash hauled away. And now what happens to all the trash that was not picked up? Does it have to be taken back in till next trash day or will it sit there creating an eyesore. If the city is aware that the Waste Management trash men are soliciting tips why isn’t anyone doing something about this?
Gloucester City Mayor Bill James was contacted. After investigating he explained that yes there is a 10 bag trash limit.
\”We had a problem for a while with some building contractors. Instead of paying for a trash dumpster they were placing the refuse from a building site on the sidewalk for the city to pick up. Some contractors working elsewhere were bringing the trash from the job home with them and setting it out for the City to pickup. The limit was put in place to correct this problem.
\”However, there are exceptions to every rule. For example, if someone is cleaning out a house or an apartment and has more than 10 bags they can arrange for pickup by calling the Highway Department at 456-0781. In some cases a supervisor from the highway department will come to the residence to view the trash in person.
\”Waste Management, the contractor the City hired to pick up the trash is paid by the City. No employee from Waste Management is authorized to solicit money for trash pickup. If this happens the resident is urged to call the Highway Department and report the incident. We in turn contact Waste Management and they look into the accusation.
\”As for the TIP you received. The woman followed the proper procedure. She called the Highway Department. And the City contacted Waste Management. \”
