\’Emailgate\’:The Memos Gloucester City Officials Didn\’t Want You To See

By Bill Cleary

On Friday, June 6th Gloucester City Councilman Nick Marchese (Finance Chairman) via an E-mail asked City Administrator/City Clerk Paul Kain if he completed his new assessment and vision of the former Coast Guard Base property. Members of Council along with Kain met a week before to discuss the Freedom Pier plans. Kain supposedly said he didn\’t want to move ahead with the project until he had a chance to study the project further.

Freedom Pier was first proposed by the Kilcourse Administration two years ago in 2006.Kain was also the City Administrator back then. It calls for the construction of 29 townhouses at the former coast guard base on King Street at the Delaware River.

Early Saturday morning, (12:28 AM) June 7th, Kain responded by Email to Marchese in this reporter\’s view in an abrupt, rude memo. Copies of that Email were forwarded to all council members. Along with deputy clerk Kathy Jentsch, Gina Dunphy UEZ office, Police Chief William Crothers, Frank Robertson and Bowie Johnson at the public works department.
