GLOUCESTER CITY NJ-The Broadway Redevelopment Committee is an ad hoc mayoral committee that has been meeting for the past year to help revitalize the Gloucester City\’s downtown business district.

Members of the committee include: Bob Booth, Albert Countryman, Bill Fisher, Richard Flynn, Mike Hall, Bill Labbree and Dave Stallwood.

Thus far, members of the committee have worked with the city to secure 52 ornamental lights that are currently being installed on Broadway.

Also, the committee has worked with consultant Mark Lohbauer of the JGSC Group to complete a Business Improvement District Feasibility Study for the downtown area from Powell to Middlesex on Broadway and from Atlantic to the railroad tracks on Monmouth.

The committee\’s motto is \”Pick Up the Pace,\” and feedback will always be gratefully received by any member of the committee as they seek to revitalize our downtown business and shopping area and better serve the residents of Gloucester City.

The Broadway Redevelopment Committee\’s met with the public last Wednesday, to discuss the Business Improvement District Feasibility Study.

 Farewell Services were held for Carol A. Sheahan (nee Stutzenberg), 64, of Deptford, formerly of Mount Ephraim, who died October 5, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Carol leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family and community throughout her life. Born in Camden, Carol was a longtime resident of Mount Ephraim where she served on the Board of Education and was a member of the Mount Ephraim Democratic Club; and proudly served as the first woman President of the Lions Club in Mount Ephraim. Carol was also a member of the Brooklawn American Legion Post #72 Ladies Auxiliary.

Carol worked as a clerk for the Camden County Board of Elections until her retirement in 1999 after more than 15 years of service.

Away from her work, Carol cherished the time she spent with her family especially her children and grandchildren.

Carol is the beloved wife of 24 years to Robert E. Sheahan. Devoted mother of Margaret \”Peggy\” Gillen (Michael); Michael Spates (Kelli), Douglas Spates (Jessica); Dennis Sheahan (Nancy); Cassandra Dingler (Timothy) and John Sheahan. Grandmother of Mikaila, Andrew, Jordan, Emma, John Paul, Sean, Melinda, Justin, Callie and Alaina. Great grandmother of 3. Her first husband Joseph Spates predeceases Carol.

Suddenly, On October 19, 2008. Age 68. Of Gloucester City. Loving husband of 46 years to the late Margaret J. \”Peg\” (Nee Chorzelewski). Devoted father of William C. Stevens (Tamara) of Gloucester City and Timothy R. Stevens (Allison Croge) of Bridgeport. Cherished grandfather of Corey D. Stevens, Melissa H. Stevens and Michael Croge. Dear Brother of Clifford Stevens (Janet) of Delaware and Charles Stevens (Dorothy) of Berlin.

Born Vernon Harry Stevens, He was known to all as Harry. He worked for Knox-Gellatin in Camden for over 25 years and then as a Plant Supervisor for AMSPEC in Gloucester City for 15 years. Harry was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved selling his goods at the Berlin Mart on Weekends. He truly loved being part of the Baynes Avenue Neighborhood and loved his neighbors.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his visitation on Friday, November 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Highland Park Church of God: Baynes Avenue and Market Street, Gloucester City. Memorial Service 7:30 pm in the church officiated by Rev. William Dilks. Cremation is private at the request of the family. Family strongly requests no flowers for the service. Chapman. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Brandon Mahoney, Aiden Dolson, Jeffrey , Jr., Alyssa and Joseph Taylor, her mother Frances Coveleski, her brother Joseph Coveleski, and sister Frances Nelson.

Mrs. Salerno was born in Vineland, NJ and was a member of the Woodbury Jehovah\’s Witnesses Congregation where she enjoyed ministry and teaching the Bible.

KUDOS!The Gloucester City Mustang Cheerleaders participated in the recent City Clean Up Day. The girls worked around the Water Street and Jersey Avenue area. There were over 25 girls who came out to support this worthy endeavor.

Anthony Parisi, 39, of Gloucester City. Parisi, a former patient, is also a former Golden Gloves boxer who is proudest of pictures taken of him posing with the Los Angeles Lakers cheerleaders. But in March 2007, depressed that his boxing career hadn\’t panned out, he spent time in Ancora.

Parisi said he witnessed a sexual assault of a young woman while he was in the hospital.

\”They definitely sell contraband to the patients. There are good staff there who try to help people. But there are people there who turn it into an industry, where they make money on the side,\” said Anthony Parisi, 39, a former Ancora patient who now works as a community organizer in Gloucester City.

The Rams, No. 6 in the Courier-Post Small Schools Top 10, held Deptford to just 3 yards of offense in the first half and 95 for the contest. Gloucester Catholic finished with 168 yards rushing and 141 passing.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was born in Philadelphia and was a longtime resident of Bellmawr. She was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Maurice R.C. Church in Brooklawn where she was a Eucharistic Minister as well as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Elizabeth was a Den Leader of the Cub Scouts 185 of Bellmawr and also a member of the Bellmawr Senior Citizens.
