A TRUCK DRIVER\’S POINT OF VIEW

Hi Bill,

\"073107_0227_JacksSaysTh1\" I read your recent \”JEER\” concerning the \”Big Rigs\” who idle their motors all night. Yes it can be annoying to any resident who lives close by, but I would like to express my opinion from a truck drivers point of view.

I feel these truckers are getting a raw deal! Most of the truckers travel many miles to get to their location. When they get there, whether it be Holts or any other destination, they are very, very tired and all they want to do is sleep! The truck becomes their home, so in some ways, like it or not, they actually become neighbors with the resident\’s who live near Holt\’s Cargo!

Everything they have is in the sleeper, whether it be a T.V., microwave or running their heater at night to stay warm, has to be done while the truck is idling.

As you know truck drivers keep America moving! Everything you have in your home or where you work, at some point was delivered on a truck.

As far as urinating in front of any residence, I would bet if you ask the truck driver if he knew he was being watched he would say no. Driving a tractor trailer is what I do for a living and I can tell you that many of the places I deliver to DO NOT have restrooms for truckers. There are few places I deliver to that have \”Spot a Pots\”, which I can tell you from experience, are not very pleasant and I can assure you most people would not let there pet use them let alone a human being.

So unfortunately, being a truck driver and urinating outside is just the \’Nature of the Beast\’, and I can tell you after driving many miles and finally getting to your destination only to find out they have no restroom, you find your own!

I just ask that if you could put yourself in their shoes, What would you do?

To your readers I ask them to think about this the next time they are sitting on their reclining chair, watching their color TV, eating their dinner or talking on their phone, try to remember a trucker helped make that possible!

Sincerely, THE GHOST RIDER
