MOUNT OLIVE — A new grenade-like fire-suppression device was used on an early morning blaze that heavily damaged a Flanders home and left one resident hospitalized, authorities said. Firefighters called to 21 Hermanne Drive at 4 a.m. found intense smoke and fire on both floors of the bi-level home, said Douglas Fenichel, a Flanders Fire Department spokesman.
Two residents escaped on their own, but one suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to Saint Clare\’s Hospital in Dover by Flanders Fire Rescue\’s EMS Division and Saint Clare\’s paramedics, Fenichel said. The residents\’ names were not immediately released.
