Holy Family University Men’s Basketball Loses to California (Pa.), 93-56

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Holy Family University men’s basketball team dropped a non-conference match-up to host California (Pa.) University, 93-56, at Hamer Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Forward Justin Swidowski (so. Cinnaminson, N.J./Holy Cross) paced Holy Family (0-7) with a team-high 17 points. Forward Rickie Crews (jr. Westville, N.J./Deptford) recorded his second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs. Guard Khiry Hankins (fr. Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country) contributed eight points. .

California (6-1) received 21 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs, from forward Kelsey Williams. Guard Ryne Niemiec poured in 12 points in a reserve role. Forward Chris Moore came off-the-bench to added 10 points and eight rebounds. Twelve different players scored for the Vulcans.
The Vulcans shot 42.9 percent (36 of 84) from the field, while the Tigers hit at a 41.8 percent (23 of 55) clip. California had the rebounding advantage, 56-33, including a 25-7 margin on the offensive glass. Holy Family committed 27 turnovers, while California turned the ball over 11 times.
The game started off tight, featuring four lead changes and three ties in the opening nine minutes. Guard LaRon Byrd broke the final ties with a three-pointer at the 12:14 mark to put the Vulcans ahead 14-11.
The Vulcans outscored the Tigers 22-5 over the final 7:44 of the half to put them in front 42-19 at the half.
In the second half, California’s lead got as large as 87-42 with 5:07 remaining.
Holy Family returns home to take on American International in a non-conference tilt on Sunday, December 13 at 3 p.m.

Center Valley, PA (December 12, 2009) – The 21st ranked DeSales University men’s basketball team led by as many as 16 points early in the second half and withstood a furious second-half rally from the Cardinals, hanging on for its 16th straight win at home, 64-62, over St. John Fisher College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.
