Frank J. Spellman Jr., Retired News Journalist, WW II Army Veteran, Bronze Star Medal Recipient

\"Obit_photo.php\" Francis J. Spellman, Sr. of National Park passed away on December 13, 2009. Frank was 86 years old.

A honest and humble man, Frank possessed a great sense of humor and was fiercely devoted to his family. Frank\’s thirst for knowledge was satisfied by reading countless history and non-fiction books and solving endless crossword puzzles. Providing for his family as a news journalist, Frank enjoyed employment with the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Gloucester County Times and The Catholic Star Herald.

A US Army Veteran of WWII, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished service. A long time, devout member of Saint Matthew\’s, Frank was a familiar face at 10:30 Mass, where he served as usher for 58 years. Spending time outside in his garden growing Dahlias and being with his family were things that brought him great joy in life.

Frank is the beloved husband of 61 years to Rosemarie B. (nee Schmidt); very best dad to Francis J., Jr. (Jean) Patricia Naddeo-Cavallero (Michael), John (Sandy), Michael (Kathie), Helen Flood (Jack), Daniel, Mary K. Melnychuck (Andy)and Susan Eivich (Edward); dear brother of The Rev. John Spellman O.S.F.S. and the late Margaret, Joseph and Peter Spellman; loving grandfather of 18 and great grandfather of 5.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Frank\’s viewing on Thursday 9-11:45 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury. Funeral Mass 12:30 PM in St. Matthew RC Church, National Park. Interment and military honors will follow at Woodbury Memorial Park, West Deptford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Matthew\’s Church, 307 Wesley Ave., National Park, NJ 08063 or to the Salvation Army, 915 Haddon Ave., Camden, NJ 08103.
