Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who bolted the Republican Party 11 months ago in a bid to salvage his Senate career as a Democrat, was defeated in a primary for his new party\’s nomination on Tuesday, as Democratic primary voters turned against him and selected Representative Joe Sestak for the nomination.
Mr. Specter, 80, lost his bid for a sixth term despite the backing of a wide swath of the Democratic political establishment — starting with President Obama in the White House and continuing with Ed Rendell, the governor of Pennsylvania.

Bus Traveling from Bellmawr to Philly Crashes 16 Injured; 1 critical

Executive Chief Daniel Williams of the Philadelphia Fire Department says 16 people were transported to various hospitals, and one had a serious head injury. Williams says 11 medic units were called to the scene. Brett Cusatis, of West Philadelphia, said the occupants were returning to the Kensington section of the city after working for the day at J&J Snack Foods in Bellmawr, N.J. He said the driver yelled that he had no brakes and the bus turned right at high speed and slammed into a telephone pole, shearing off the back of the vehicle.
