Longtime Gloucester High School baseball coach Bob Barth was killed in a car accident early Sunday morning. A Winslow Township resident, Barth was reportedly headed to Sportz Central, a baseball and softball training facility where he was an instructor, in Bellmawr when his SUV struck an abandoned vehicle near the Creek Road exit off Route 42. A social studies teacher at Overbrook and then Lindenwold, Barth was best known as the coach of the Lions from 1991-2005. The 2004 Gloucester County Times Baseball Coach of the Year, he led Gloucester to three straight South Jersey Group I championship games from 2003-05.

\”He was a great guy, a great teacher,\” said former Lions shortstop Adam Tussey Jr., who played on all three teams and was a four-year starter. \”He was a good friend. It\’s a big loss to New Jersey baseball, New Jersey sports. He\’ll be greatly missed.\”
