Mr. Lowry realized that the group of women, many of whom are in their 80s and 90s, needed more than just legal help: He and other residents of Barrington and Bellmawr, N.J. formed a charitable organization called Daughters for the Daughters of our Lady of the Sacred Heart with the goal of raising enough money to provide for the nuns for the duration of their lives. The first step was to install an elevator in the convent: Since the nuns\’ sleeping quarters were on the top floor, many of the older women could no longer easily climb three flights of stairs multiple times a day to eat and pray. Mr. Lowry enlisted volunteers and businesses from around the community to raise nearly $70,000 for the convent\’s restoration and senior-living retrofitting.

Area companies like Allied Elevator LLC., based in Pennsauken, N.J. and the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local No. 5 of Philadelphia provided labor and materials to build the new elevator, which will be in working order as early as this month.

It is now time for a new school season with many new students going to school for the first time. We want to wish those new students well and most importantly we want them all to get to and from school safely.
 
We are asking the motoring public to be mindful of the new laws regarding pedestrians in the cross walks and we also want the pedestrians to be aware of the proper locations to cross. All motorists must now stop completely for any pedestrian who is within a legal crosswalk. Failure to stop for a pedestrian can subject the motorist to a traffic citation. Likewise all pedestrians must use a crosswalk to cross the street. It is not permitted to cross the street in the middle of the block or any other area where there is no crosswalk. Pedestrians must also cross the street at a right angle and they cannot walk in the street.

UPDATE-The one car accident reported last night on CNB happened Sunday evening at 5 PM on Old Salem Road near the Brooklawn/Bellmawr border.

Zach Braddock made the major leagues at the young age of 22, but that doesn\’t mean it wasn\’t a long road for the left-handed pitcher from Gloucester Catholic. He underwent Tommy John surgery between his junior and senior high school seasons and faced injury problems that limited his time on the mound in the first few years of his professional career. But in the last two years after starting the 2008 season in A-ball, Braddock has shot up through the Milwaukee Brewers\’ minor league system, making his major-league debut in May. He arrived in Philadelphia a short ride over the Walt Whitman Bridge from where he played his high school and legion ball on Friday looking forward to the chance to pitch in front of friends and family. \”It\’s why I went to high school where I did,\” said Braddock. \”I wanted the smaller school, but also the program. I grew up in the baseball realm, I wanted to put myself in this position. I was hoping to get here. It\’s what I\’ve dreamed of.
