Mainstage shifts into high gear offering more shows than ever to the South Jersey Region
Mainstage Center for the Arts (MCA) will present seven shows, the most in its 22-year history, for the 2010-11 season. It will also offer its first season ticket package. This comes at a time when many cultural organizations are scaling back due to the economy.
\”We\’ve taken this leap because we can offer local audiences a reasonably-priced enjoyable theatre experience right here in Camden County College\’s beautifully renovated Dennis Flyer Theatre. With the new exit to the college right off of Route 42, it\’s very convenient to reach us,\” said Ed Fiscella, artistic director, MCA. \”We\’re offering shows with a wide-range of appeal. And, we believe that audiences will appreciate the quality and value.\”
The season kicks off with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), October 22 -24. In this comedy, three performers use slapstick and improvisation to transform all 37 of Shakespeare\’s plays into one hilarious show. This irreverent tribute to the world-famous Bard is sponsored by Mainstage Center for the Arts and presented by the Collaborative Act Studio in association with the Ritz Theatre.
The season also includes:

With pensions on the line, Gov. Christie is booed at N.J. Firemen\’s Convention in Wildwood
– pressofAtlanticCity.com
WILDWOOD — With thousands of firefighters booing him from the Wildwood Convention Center bleachers Friday, a combative Gov. Chris Christie gestured for more and refused to back down on his plan to reduce pension payments to public employees.
\”If you guys think you can shout me down, it\’s going to be a long day,\” Christie told the crowd as he stood at the convention center\’s podium to give his remarks during the first day of the New Jersey State Firemen\’s Association Convention.
Booing the state\’s governors has become a tradition for firefighters at the annual convention.
But firefighters had additional incentive Friday, when the governor arrived after 2 p.m. to address them. As part of his plans to reform the state\’s pension system, Christie has proposed reducing pension payouts by 5 percent to firefighters who retire after 25 years. In order to get 65 percent of their salaries as pension, they would have to work an additional five years. Currently, firefighters can retire after 25 years of service regardless of their age and qualify for 65 percent of their salary as a pension.
