Camden, NJ – AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is working with Camden Children\’s Garden to supply the citizens of Camden with urban gardens and education on healthy eating in order to help them move away from being a \”food desert\”. Together, Camden Children\’s Garden and NCCC will hold family festivals at the children\’s garden as well as maintain and develop urban gardens around the city. Jasmine Thomas states, \”I love gardening and I\’m so glad we are able to provide for a community in need of fresh veggies.\” AmeriCorps members also will be helping the Garden Club to cultivate over 100 community gardens throughout the City of Camden and will assist in building the 40+ gardens on the waiting list to be created in 2011. For this round, AmeriCorps Raven 3 will be assisting in sprucing up the Children\’s Garden for the Spring Festival Season and helping to prepare for the 6th Annual Garden Party Fundraiser on June 16th, 2011, 6pm-9pm (more below).

AmeriCorps NCCC team, Raven 3, is based in Perry Point Maryland, but reins in volunteers from all around the country. Led by Leeann Sudol, Raven 3, is very excited to learn about horticulture and to put their knowledge to good use for the city of Camden.

The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. AmeriCorps NCCC members have a strong desire to make positive impacts in neighborhoods and change the face of communities using hands-on team projects. Since its first members pledged to get things done for America 17 years ago, AmeriCorps NCCC has built an impressive record of accomplishments in both Washington D.C. and around the nation.
