Brooklawn comes back to top Hawaii – The Star Online

Saturday, Aug 13 2011, 1:15 am

SHELBY – Brooklawn, N.J., second baseman Joe Brooks wasn’t sure how many times his team has rallied from behind to win games this season.

But it would hard to imagine any of them being sweeter than Friday night’s 3-2 victory over Waipahu, Hawaii in opening day of the American Legion World Series at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium.

Brooks, who has committed to sign a baseball scholarship with East Carolina in the fall, stroked a single to deep centerfield for a game-ending one-out, bases-loaded RBI in the bottom of the ninth inning.

It completed a Brooklawn (45-4) comeback from a 2-0 deficit after 7 1-2 innings in front of a crowd of 5,916.

\”We’d fought back the whole game,\” Brooks said. \”We were determined to find a way to win it.\”
