Dear Seeing Eye Supporter, 

The Seeing Eye has paired up with Gran Fondo New Jersey (GFNJ), a bike tour and weekend of activities that are centered around Morristown. Gran Fondo means \”big ride\” or \”big endurance\” in Italian. There are three routes – the 103-mile Gran Fondo, the 63-mile Medio Fondo and the 43-mile Piccolo F ondo. GFNJ is an exciting fundraiser and ride — not a race — that will feature timed hill climbs with all the carnival-like culture of European tour mountain climbs. 

The bike tour and other GFNJ festivities will take place August 26-28, 2011. The ride itself will take place on Sunday, August 28. The event will benefit three charities, including The Seeing Eye. In

Brooklawn NJ, the Mid-Atlantic champ, will face Waipahu, Hawaii, the Northwest Division winner at 5 PM.

 

South Jersey fans can watch the game at Gaetanos Restaurant, Rt. 130 and Browning Road, Brooklawn. There will be three televisions spread out around the restaurant to view the game.

The Camden County Freeholders honored the Bellmawr Purple Eagles on the occasion of their 50^th Anniversary during their Bellmawr Town Meeting on July 21.

Freeholder Director Louis Capelli Jr. presented the proclamation, noting the honor was made at the request of Mayor Frank Filipek and members of Council.

Current Club Secretary Bill Savidge and founding member Joe Huff, were on hand for the presentation. Huff is the retired Bellmawr Recreation Superintendent.

In remarks following the ceremony, Mr. Huff thanked the residents of Bellmawr, saying \”If it weren’t for you, there would be no Bellmawr Purple Eagles.\”

Brooklawn remains undefeated in tournament play. Saturday the Brookers will play a 5 PM game against Midland, Michigan the Great Lakes Division winner, sponsored by Berryhill Post 165. Midland beat Eden Prairie, MN earlier today.

Incidentally, the 15 -16 year old Brooklawn Junior Legion team is playing in New Bedford, Mass for the Northeast Championship this evening. The Young Brookers are unbeaten in Legion play this year and are currently beating Sudbury, Mass (the Mass. representative) 12 – 2 in the 4th. With a win the Brookers advance Saturday to play the winner of Conn. vs Maine winner. This is a single elimination tourney.
