Members of the Gloucester City Planning Board approved several basic improvements to three properties in the City’s Historic District during last week’s brief meeting.

Historic Commission President David Munn presented the applications, which had already been given the green light by the Commission. Munn noted that all three properties had been vacant for quite some time.

Policy concerns regarding physical education and recess brought parents out to last week’s Bellmawr Board of Education (BOE) meeting in greater numbers than usual.

Several parents wondered what the School District considered acceptable physical education and health requirements.

Michael Joseph Grover, age 52 died suddenly on October 1, 2011 at his home in Deptford where he has lived over 20 years. Michael was a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School in 1977. For the past 20 years he worked for EP Henry in Woodbury as General Manager of the Block Plant. Mike was an avid bowler and as a member of different bowling teams he bowled a 300 game. He enjoyed all sports, but was especially devoted to the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers. 

He is survived by his wife of 19 years Stacey (nee Friebel), mother Margaret Grover of Woodbury, sisters Jeanne (Bill) Kenney of Gloucester, and Cathy (Bill) MacMillan of Mullica Hill, nephews and nieces Jeff, Billy, Jason, Kevin, Patrick, Jacquelyn, Andrew and great nephews Jeffrey, Jacob and Evan. He was predeceased by his father Harry E. and brother Edward Grover. Mike was a friend to everyone and enjoyed life each and every day. He especially loved his dog Buster.

Friends may call on Wednesday after 5pm in the BUDD FUNERAL HOME, 522 Salem Ave (King’s Hwy), Woodbury, NJ. Funeral service will be at 8pm. Mass Cards for the family would be appreciated. Memories may be shared at www.buddfuneralhome.com.

More than 700 anglers celebrated the 20th Annual Governor\’s Surf Fishing Tournament on Sunday October 2 at Island Beach State Park. The beautiful fall day added to the enthusiasm as anglers reeled in sixty-seven eligible fish in the kingfish, blackfish, bluefish and striped bass categories.

Bellmawr Mayor and Borough Council honored two championship teams from the 2011 Gloucester City Girls’ Softball Tournament during its September 22 meeting.

This tournament marked the final time it will be held in Gloucester City, prompting Mayor Frank Filipek to offer if Bellmawr can help in any way to keep ensuing tournaments close by.

Members of Council joined the Mayor in congratulating the following players and their coaches.
