STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Joe Paterno was stunned that Penn State\’s Board of Trustees fired him Wednesday night amid a child sex-abuse scandal involving his one-time heir apparent, a source close to the outgoing football coach told CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian.

The winningest coach in major college football history found out about his termination from a letter hand-delivered by a university employee about 15 minutes before the trustees publicly announced their decision in a press conference, the source said.

\”You give your life to this place, and that\’s how you\’re treated,\” the source said.

Paterno\’s termination sent angry students into the streets where they shouted support for their coach and tipped over a news van.

HUNTERS HARVEST 53 ELK IN 2011

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today announced that 53 of the 57 licensed elk hunters were successful during the 2011 elk seasons. Of that total, 19 were antlered elk and 34 were antlerless elk.

The Larc School is a non-profit, special education school located on Creek Road in Bellmawr.

The school offers programs for students with disabilities who range in age from 3 to 21, with an adult program.

All of the classrooms are bustling with stimulating learning activities each school day from 8:45 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The Mount Ephraim Board of Education heard the 2010-11 audit presentation by Auditor Robert Stewart of Inverso and Stewart, LLC, during its October meeting.

Mr. Stewart said that the district is in \”very good shape,\” and there are not any recommendations.

Bellmawr Mayor and Council announced that resurfacing work would begin on West Browning Road the week of October 31 during last week’s Council meeting.

An unnamed source indicated the milling and re-surfacing would begin on or around Thursday November 3.

The affected section will extend from West Browning Road (at Belmont Avenue) to East Browning Road (at Lewis Avenue), with both drivers and area residents being duly notified.

Gloucester City Council approved a resolution to support the Southern New Jersey Transit’s plan for a passenger rail line through the City during its work session October 20.

The proposed new rail line from Camden to Glassboro along the existing Conrail right of way tracks would include a station in Gloucester City.
