Wednesday, December 28, 2011 Rescue 32 and Squad 45 responded to Route 295 Southbound just before Exit 26. Crews located a vehicle that had gone off the roadway struck a fence that caused the vehicle to flip and come to rest in a small stream.

The lone occupant had self extricated prior to FD arrival. Fire Department members controlled a minor fluid spill. The driver was transported to Cooper Hospital with minor injuries. The incident is under investigation by the NJSP.

Terri Lewis of the New Jersey School Boards addressed the Gloucester City Board of Education (BOE) concerning the search for a new superintendent during last week’s meeting.

A leading company that provides red light cameras to catch drivers breaking traffic laws has been putting some of its vast cache of footage on YouTube. The P.S.A.s are intended to show the possible consequences of flouting red lights, and the company, American Traffic Solutions, recently compiled a montage of car crashes and near-misses from New Jersey. 

CAGW Grounds $3 Billion in Defense Budget Pork
Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) won its multi-year battle to terminate federal funding for the alternate engine for the Joint Strike Fighter, a wasteful pork-barrel project that was opposed by both the Bush and Obama administrations and the Pentagon, which had repeatedly said the alternate engine was \”not necessary and not affordable.\” On April 25, the Department of Defense terminated its contract for production of the engine after CAGW ultimately embarrassed Congress into declining to fund the program. Then taxpayers received an early Christmas present when GE and Rolls-Royce announced on December 2 that they would cease self-funding the project at the end of the year. CAGW led the opposition to the engine since disclosing the first earmark for it in the 2004 Congressional Pig Book, and pulling the plug on the project saves taxpayers $3 billion. Read more about the death of the alternate engine.

Washington, D.C. – The race to be named CREW’s first ever Scoundrel of the Year came down to a dead heat between a Wall Street puppet and a media puppet master. While House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) hypocrisy riled up voters, in the end, he was no match for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which may have spied on the families of 9/11 victims as well as other American citizens. The Department of Justice is now investigating the matter.

St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Ind., announces that senior Melissa Jackson was recently named an Orr Fellow. 

Jackson from Gloucester City, is the daughter of Ray and Karen Jackson. She attended Gloucester Catholic High School and is a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Gloucester City.

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is advising bowhunters that deer harvested during the 2012 Winter Bow Season must be reported using the new Automated Game Check System (AGCS) instead of being brought to a deer check station. Using the AGCS, hunters will report their deer over the telephone or online.

2012 Bow Licenses now come with a Harvest Report Stub (which includes a Harvest Number) instead of a Transportation Tag. Once successful hunters retrieve their kill they are to complete the stub with the exception of the \”Confirmation Number\” – this number will be provided when the deer is reported via the AGCS. When reporting deer hunters will provide additional information (date, zone, etc.) about their deer.
